Configuring Stratix III DevicesTable 11–15. Dedicated Configuration Pins on the Stratix III Device (Part 3 of 7)Pin Name User Mode ConfigurationSchemePin TypeDescriptionnSTATUS N/A All Bidirectionalopen-drainThe device drives nSTATUS low immediatelyafter power-up and releases it after the PORtime.During user mode and regular configuration, this pin is pulled high by an external 10-kΩresistor.This pin, when driven low by Stratix III,indicates that the device is being initializedand has encountered an error duringconfiguration.Status output. If an error occurs duringconfiguration, nSTATUS is pulled low by thetarget device.Status input. If an external source drives thenSTATUS pin low during configuration orinitialization, the target device enters an errorstate.Driving nSTATUS low after configuration andinitialization does not affect the configureddevice. If you use a configuration device, driving nSTATUS low will cause theconfiguration device to attempt to configurethe device, but since the device ignorestransitions on nSTATUS in user-mode, thedevice does not reconfigure. To initiate areconfiguration, nCONFIG must be pulled low.The enhanced configuration devices' OE andnCS pins have optional internal programmablepull-up resistors. If you use internal pull-upresistors on the enhanced configurationdevice, you should not use external 10-kΩpull-up resistors on these pins.Altera Corporation 11–77May 2007 Stratix III Device Handbook, Volume 1
