Passive Serial ConfigurationIf you are using a download cable to configure device(s) on a board thatalso has configuration devices, electrically isolate the configurationdevice from the target device(s) and cable. One way of isolating theconfiguration device is to add logic, such as a multiplexer, that can selectbetween the configuration device and the cable. The multiplexer chipallows bidirectional transfers on the nSTATUS and CONF_DONE signals.Another option is to add switches to the five common signals (nCONFIG,nSTATUS, DCLK, DATA0, and CONF_DONE) between the cable and theconfiguration device. The last option is to remove the configurationdevice from the board when configuring the device with the cable.Figure 11–28 shows a combination of a configuration device and adownload cable to configure the Stratix III device.11–64 Altera CorporationStratix III Device Handbook, Volume 1 May 2007
