Na segunda versão simplificada (Ladybird Books), salientamos a referência espácio-
temporal “now” (agora) e “that” (“esse”/“aquele”). A análise do contexto de ocorrência do
demonstrativo “that”, pela leitura das linhas de concordância, que contêm um mesmo
número de caracteres à direita e à esquerda do lexema, permitiu-nos concluir que, na
versão inglesa, “that” tinha várias funções sintácticas na frase (i.e., “that”/“que”). Verificamos
o recurso ao discurso indirecto (1), e não apenas à apresentação da fala das personagens
(discurso directo), o que denuncia diferentes focalizações, a frases subordinadas integrantes
(2) e subordinadas finais (5).
