Na segunda versão simplificada (Ladybird Books), salientamos a referência espácio-<br />

t<strong>em</strong>poral “now” (agora) e “that” (“esse”/“aquele”). A análise <strong>do</strong> contexto <strong>de</strong> ocorrência <strong>do</strong><br />

<strong>de</strong>monstrativo “that”, pela <strong>leitura</strong> das linhas <strong>de</strong> concordância, que contêm um mesmo<br />

número <strong>de</strong> caracteres à direita e à esquerda <strong>do</strong> lex<strong>em</strong>a, permitiu-nos concluir que, na<br />

versão inglesa, “that” tinha várias funções sintácticas na frase (i.e., “that”/“que”). Verificamos<br />

o recurso ao discurso indirecto (1), e não apenas à apresentação da fala das personagens<br />

(discurso directo), o que <strong>de</strong>nuncia diferentes focalizações, a frases subordinadas integrantes<br />

(2) e subordinadas finais (5).<br />
