Storyteller’s Ideologies of the Audience

Resumo
Neste poster são analisadas as crenças e as teorias informais sobre os ouvintes de um grupo de doze
contadores de histórias espanhóis. As entrevistas recolhidas integram um estudo mais vasto que
aborda a socialização, através da literatura, de crianças de contextos de aprendizagem urbanos e
informais.. O grupo de contadores de histórias foi dividido em 4 tipos de trajectórias: educação não
formal, teatro e artes performativas, literatura infantil e marionetas. Foram analisados quatro
aspectos das crenças e teorias dos contadores de histórias: o papel da idade como dimensão
estruturante, o papel do meio social, a definição de um contexto ideal para contar histórias e a
participação da audiência. O estudo, que focou, especificamente, o papel que o contacto com o
sistema formal de ensino teve na construção das crenças dos contadores de histórias revelou a
existência de relações visíveis na primeira e segunda dimensões. Neste poster é também
apresentado um conjunto de implicações metodológicas e teóricas derivado dos dados obtidos.
Abstract
This poster examines the beliefs and informal theories about their audiences of a group of twelve
Spanish storytellers who perform for children. The interviews were collected as part of a larger study
focusing on children’s literature socialization in urban informal learning contexts. The group of
storytellers can be loosely grouped into four types of professional trajectories leading into storytelling:
non-formal education, theatre and performing arts, written children’s literature and puppets. Four
aspects of storyteller’s ideologies are examined: the role of age as a structuring dimension, the role of
children’s upbringing and background, the definition of an ideal storytelling context and the role of
audience participation. The study focuses specifically on the role that contact with the formal
educational system can have on the formation of storyteller’s beliefs and finds an especially visible
relationship in the first and second dimensions. A number of methodological and theoretical
implications are considered from these results.
