AFID, ilustração e imprevisto: uma análise do
potencial de artistas diferentes

Resumo
A imagem constitui um poderoso veiculo de informação complementando e, mesmo, completando,
em muitos casos, a mensagem do texto escrito. Assim, uma ilustração permite realçar determinada
faceta de um texto, incentivar uma mudança de olhar ou decompor uma passagem menos explícita.
Imagem e texto escrito constituem um forte legado do património cultural (e também natural) que
ultrapassa fronteiras e épocas e molda o conhecimento vigente. Cada pessoa interpreta imagens e
textos com base nos conhecimentos, ou memes, que lhe foram passados pelos contextos de
educação formal e não-formal que a moldaram. Neste sentido, a construção de imagens ou de textos
carrega a herança cultural apreendida, adicionando pouca inovação à mensagem original.
No caso das pessoas que tiveram ao longo do seu desenvolvimento oportunidades diferentes por
possuírem características intelectuais particulares, a apreensão do conhecimento permite-lhes
atenderem e destacarem mais aspectos inesperados e não previsíveis do que os seus pares. As
imagens que formaram ao longo do seu desenvolvimento possibilitam que interpretem de uma forma
diferente, e inevitavelmente, inovadora, um texto. Ao ilustrarem o texto interpretado de forma
particular, novos aspectos são valorizados, o que constitui em si uma forma de enriquecer não só o
texto como a percepção e a compreensão de quem interpreta a ilustração.
Uma análise de trabalhos de ilustração do grupo de artistas da Fundação Afid Diferença permite
identificar uma série de características que possibilitam compreender as vantagens de um olhar não
constrangido sobre a realidade e a subsequente produção gráfica a partir desse olhar.
Abstract
Image is a powerful information vehicle, complementing, or even adding to in many cases, the
message of the written text. An illustration may highlight a particular facet of a text, encourage a
change in perspective or decompose its less explicit passages.
Written text and image are a strong legacy of cultural (and natural) heritages, which surpass time and
space and shape current knowledge. Each person interprets images and texts based on the
knowledge, or memes, passed on by formal and non-formal educational contexts. In this sense, the
construction of images or texts conveys the cultural heritage, thus leading to the addition of little
innovation to the message.
In the case of people who had different opportunities of development due to their mental retardation,
the way they organize knowledge allows them to attend and highlight unexpected features different
from the more conventional ones apprehended by their peers. The images that shaped the course of
their development enable them to interpret a text in a different, and inevitably innovative, way.
Therefore, the illustration of the text values particular aspects, which are a form of enrichment of the
text as well as innovation and originality.
An analysis of work of illustration of the group of artists of Fundação Afid Diferença allows the
identification of a number of characteristics that enable the understanding of the benefits of an
unconstrained look on the reality and the subsequent production based on innovative interpretations.
