Resumo<br />

Des<strong>de</strong> tenra ida<strong>de</strong> a criança tenta compreen<strong>de</strong>r o mun<strong>do</strong> <strong>em</strong> que vive; tactea, através <strong>de</strong> diversas<br />

experiências, exploran<strong>do</strong> e investigan<strong>do</strong> no seu <strong>de</strong>sejo <strong>de</strong> conhecer. A partir <strong>do</strong>s três anos começa a<br />

interessar-se pelas imagens <strong>do</strong>s livros infantis, mais tar<strong>de</strong> lerá e enten<strong>de</strong>rá fatos cada vez mais complexos.<br />

Neste senti<strong>do</strong> o álbum ilustra<strong>do</strong> apresenta-se como media<strong>do</strong>r entre a criança e a realida<strong>de</strong>.<br />

O álbum ilustra<strong>do</strong> se constrói através <strong>do</strong> diálogo entre o texto, o leitor e a ilustração. Junto a dimensão<br />

estética há uma consciência social que propicia o <strong>de</strong>senvolvimento da consciência crítica e incr<strong>em</strong>enta a<br />

educação <strong>do</strong> receptor, oferecen<strong>do</strong>-lhe referências e propostas que apelam para a sua capacida<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> julgar<br />

e discernir.<br />

Neste artigo, através <strong>de</strong> uma selecção <strong>de</strong> álbuns ilustra<strong>do</strong>s, analisar<strong>em</strong>os as relações psicológicas entre a<br />

personag<strong>em</strong>-adulto e a personag<strong>em</strong>-criança e como o leitor infantil elabora o significa<strong>do</strong> <strong>de</strong>ssa mensag<strong>em</strong>.<br />

D<strong>em</strong>onstrar<strong>em</strong>os como estas obras ajudam ao receptor a valorar sentimentos e conflitos vitais permitin<strong>do</strong><br />

construir sua educação <strong>em</strong> valores, às vezes tão complexos como as relações familiares.<br />

Abstract<br />

From an early stage, children try to un<strong>de</strong>rstand the world where they live, they see how things stand out<br />

through a variety of experiences, exploring and researching in their eagerness to learn. At about the three<br />

years of age they start to feel interested in the pictures of the children books, later they will read and<br />

un<strong>de</strong>rstand more complex facts. In this sense, the picture books become a mediator between children and<br />

reality.<br />

The picture book is built through the dialogue among the text, the rea<strong>de</strong>r and the illustrations. Along with the<br />

aesthetic dimension, there is a social awareness that brings about the <strong>de</strong>velopment of a critical<br />

consciousness and increases the recipient’s education, offering different proposals and referents which<br />

appeal to the rea<strong>de</strong>r’s ability to judge and discern.<br />

In this article, through a selection of picture books, we will analyse the psychological relationships between<br />

the adult-character and the child-character and how the infant rea<strong>de</strong>rs produce the meaning of the<br />

messages. We will prove how these picture books help the recipient to assess feelings and vital conflicts and<br />

let th<strong>em</strong> build up their educational values, sometimes as complex as family relationships.<br />
