This course deals with aims and objectives of musical education. The significance of musical
education in schools will be illustrated. Musical-related learning processes and musical forms of
behaviour will be conveyed to students in a comprehensible way.
Additional pieces of advice with regard to literature will be given in the course of the seminar.

Die LV erstreckt sich über das Winter- und Sommersemester.
The students will become familiar with the theory and practice of diatonic and other scales
within the circle of fifths (up to 4 sharps/flats).
They will be able to recognise and write triads and their inversions. They will be able to
recognise and apply chord symbols and cadence changes. They will also recognise, write and
apply cadences (main and subsidiary functions), the II-V-I constellations and descending fith
cadences. They will become familiar with song harmonisation and the main triads.
The acquisition of these abilities rests on the principles of scale theory. Students will be able to
recognise and write octave intervals and scales with up to four flat/sharp markings.
