The central aim of the course is to give students the opportunity to examine concrete public
policies of interest to them across a variety of national contexts. This requires theoretical policy
background from politics, economics, social policy and public administration as well as
conceptual development. A major focus of the course is on the variation in national policy
patterns within Europe, but also within the wider OECD area and Africa with a view to
understanding how and why nations differ and what they can learn from each other's policy
experience. The course aims at offering an advanced understanding of key policy issues in
various societies with a special focus on contemporary European policy concerns, including
health, entrepreneurship, immigration and social policy.

The lecture introduces the basic concepts of non-cooperative and cooperative game theory.
Special emphasis is put on applications to political and social sciences. In non-cooperative
game theory the topics normal form game, extensive form game, Nash-equilibrium, subgame
perfect equilibrium, games with incomplete information, Bayes-Nash equilibrium, sequential
equilibrium, perfect equilibrium and repeated games are covered. In cooperative game theory
core, bargaining set and Shapley- value are discussed. Modul 1: Advanced Microeconomics I .
