The central a<strong>im</strong> of the course is to give students the opportunity to examine concrete public<br />

policies of interest to them across a variety of national contexts. This requires theoretical policy<br />

background from politics, economics, social policy and public administration as well as<br />

conceptual development. A major focus of the course is on the variation in national policy<br />

patterns within Europe, but also within the wider OECD area and Africa with a view to<br />

understanding how and why nations differ and what they can learn from each other's policy<br />

experience. The course a<strong>im</strong>s at offering an advanced understanding of key policy issues in<br />

various societies with a special focus on contemporary European policy concerns, including<br />

health, entrepreneurship, <strong>im</strong>migration and social policy.<br />

The lecture introduces the basic concepts of non-cooperative and cooperative game theory.<br />

Special emphasis is put on applications to political and social sciences. In non-cooperative<br />

game theory the topics normal form game, extensive form game, Nash-equilibrium, subgame<br />

perfect equilibrium, games with incomplete information, Bayes-Nash equilibrium, sequential<br />

equilibrium, perfect equilibrium and repeated games are covered. In cooperative game theory<br />

core, bargaining set and Shapley- value are discussed. Modul 1: Advanced Microeconomics I .<br />
