Das Seminar findet in der Zeit vom 23.10.-04.11.2006 jeweils von 10-12 und 14-16 Uhr statt.
Die Anmeldung erfolgt in der 1. Semesterwoche im Sekretariat bei Frau Scheidt.
Islamism may be defined as modernist reinterpretation of Islam. Since its appearance in the
early 20th century, the importance of this ideology in world politics has steadily grown. In
order to comprehend the development of Islamism it is crucial to study its interrelation to the
political developments in the Muslim world during the 20th century. This course presents and
analyses the rise of Islamism. The course discusses this topic both from a macro perspective (in
which structural changes in global society and their relation to ideological developments within
Islam are discussed) and from a micro perspective (in which the impact of Islamism in the life
of Muslims on a grass roots level is brought to the fore). Special reference is made to the case
of Iran
