past president of Leonidas Polk Chapter Association of the U.S. Army, past president of the<br />

March of Dimes, Rapides Parish. He was past chairman and founding member of the<br />

Louisiana Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. He was a 30-year friend of Bill W.<br />

Additionally, he was a past chairman of the Rapides Parish U.S. Treasury Bond Division,<br />

past chairman of Central Louisiana Clearing House Association, past member of the Federal<br />

Affairs Committee, past member and director of Louisiana Bankers Association, past<br />

chairman of the Rapides United Way Campaign, past district chairman of the Choctaw<br />

District, Attakapas Council and the Boy Scouts of America and past chairman of the Rapides<br />

Parish American Red Cross. Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Frances G.<br />

Dick and Sally G. DuBose, both of Baton Rouge; one son, Norman L. <strong>Gunn</strong> Jr. and his wife,<br />

Pam, of St. Louis; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary G.<br />

Johnston and her husband, Sen. J. Bennett Johnston, of McLean, Va. In lieu of flowers,<br />

memorials may be sent to the Lewell Sadler <strong>Gunn</strong> Memorial Fund, c/o Our Lady of Prompt<br />

Norman L. <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

Norman L. <strong>Gunn</strong> - September 26, 1927 - March 4, 2010 Norman is in the hands of our Lord<br />

and Savior. He was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Tullos and died peacefully Thursday morning,<br />

March 4, 2010, at the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He was a native of <strong>New</strong><br />

London, Texas, and moved to Krotz Springs in 1957. He resided in Krotz Springs and<br />

Erwinville for many years and in 2008 became a resident of the Louisiana War Veterans<br />

Home in Jackson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Saufley (DD-<br />

465) and the USS Parker (DD-604), earning a Victory Medal. He is survived by his former<br />

wife and dear friend, Lucretia Meadows <strong>Gunn</strong>; daughter, Sharon Walton and husband Don<br />

Walton, of Baton Rouge; son, Charles Wayne <strong>Gunn</strong> and wife Wanda Dean <strong>Gunn</strong>, of Dallas;<br />

grandson, Shane Walton and wife Nikki Walton, of Melville; two great-grandsons, Ty and<br />

Bryce Walton; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, David and Ruby<br />

Pearl <strong>Gunn</strong>; a brother, H. D. <strong>Gunn</strong>; and a sister, Yvonne Taylor Hankins. Pallbearers will be<br />

George Taylor, Baytown, Texas, Sergio Alaniz, Henderson, Texas, Harold Hankins, Canton,<br />

Ohio, Douglas Hankins, Henderson, and Donnie Kimble and Damien Kimble, both of Baton<br />

Rouge. Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Kimble and Blake Kimble, both of Krotz Springs.<br />

After his discharge from the Navy, he attended college and started to work the East Texas<br />

oilfields for Gulf Oil until being transferred to the Krotz Springs facility in 1957. He was a<br />

plant operator and retired with 37 years of service from Chevron, formerly Gulf Oil. His love<br />

for the country included raising cattle and horses, baling hay and farming. His pastime<br />

included watching football, especially any Texas team, and he was an avid reader. Funeral<br />

services were held Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Chapel,<br />

Baton Rouge, and were conducted by the Rev. Richard Wallace of Stevendale Baptist<br />

Church. The family wishes to express their thanks for the excellent care, compassion and<br />

love that was given by the doctors, nurses and staff at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in<br />

Jackson; Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary; the Carpenter House of St. Joseph<br />

Hospice, Baton Rouge; and all the caregivers and sitters. The family wishes to give special<br />

recognition and thanks to Lowell Sibille. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made<br />

to the Louisiana War Veterans Home, the Carpenter House, St. Joseph Hospice, the<br />
