will receive Family and Friends on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 6:00 to7:00 p.m. at<br />

Hillside Mortuary Chapel. Hillside Mortuary Directing. She leaves to cherish her memory<br />

seven children, five daughters, Pauline (Bill)Smith, Detroit, MI, Ophelia (Jacob) Odubiyi, St.<br />

Louis, MO, Annie (Fred) Gilbert, Rockford, AL, Mary Frierson, Boston, MA, Georgia Hill,<br />

Montgomery, AL; two sons, Albert(Carolyn) Young and Willie Doss Young, Montgomery,<br />

AL; three brothers, Dilliard (Annie Dell) Watson, Montgomery, AL, Floyd Kelley and<br />

Arthur (Willie) Kelley, Toledo, OH; one sister-in-law, 26grandchildren, and 44 greatgrandchildren;<br />

and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.<br />

Matilda Wray <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

departed this life October 2, 1927, aged about 76 years. She was married to William P. <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

on the 16th day of December, 1869. To this union twelve children were born, five having<br />

preceded her, three in infancy, Mrs. Thos. Roberts in 1917 and Miss Ida E. <strong>Gunn</strong> in 1925.<br />

The deceased is survived by her husband and the following children: Mesdames R. S. Smith,<br />

J. T. Strader and R. Stiers, Charles A., Hardie R., Thos. A. and Bethel C. <strong>Gunn</strong>. Also<br />

eighteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a lrage number of relatives and<br />

friends to mourn her loss. Mrs. <strong>Gunn</strong> was converted quite early in life, uniting with the M.P.<br />

church and later joined the Howard"s Chapel Christian church of which she was a member<br />

at time of her deth. She lived a devoted Christian life. The home has lost a true wife, a loving<br />

mother and the community a good neighbor. The funeral services were conducted the<br />

following day by her pastor, Rev. J. W. Knight, assisted by Revs. H. P. Powell, of Spray, and<br />

Robert Barbour, of Reidsville. The following grandchildren acted as pall bearers: Luther<br />

Barber, William King, Willie Roberts, Nathaniel, Eugene and Willie <strong>Gunn</strong>. Also the<br />

following grandchildren as flower bearers: Roberts, Maurice and Annie Mae Stiers, Hunter,<br />

Lessie, Ruth, Orene and Irene <strong>Gunn</strong>. Elwood and Louise Barber and Helen and Gwendolyn<br />

Barnes. The remains were laid to rest in Shady Grove cemetery beneath a beautiful mound<br />

of flowers. May the dear Lord comfort the bereaved and aged companion and children.<br />

Mattie Julia <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

of 612 South Lee Street, LaGrange, Georgia, passed away Friday at the West Georgia<br />

Medical Center. Ms. <strong>Gunn</strong>, a native of Harris County, was born May 19, 1935, and was the<br />

daughter of the late George and Ophelia Ransom <strong>Gunn</strong>. She attended school in the Harris<br />

County School system and joined the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church at a very early<br />

age. She was a devoted member and served in many capacities; among them, Church choir,<br />

United Methodist Women, and Communion committee. She was employed as a certified<br />

nurses assistant at West Georgia Medical Center and later retired from Florence Hand<br />

Home in 2002. Survivors include her loving sisters, Annie Lee, Marie and Reasie <strong>Gunn</strong>, all<br />

of LaGrange; her loving brothers, Rev. Bobby C. <strong>Gunn</strong> (Camilla) and Calvin (Mary) <strong>Gunn</strong>,<br />

all of LaGrange; sisters-in-law, Arttie Miss <strong>Gunn</strong>, Pine Mountain, Evelyn <strong>Gunn</strong> and<br />

daughter Pam, Los Angeles, CA; special god daughter, Diane <strong>Gunn</strong> (Darryl); special<br />

nephews, Dwayne <strong>Gunn</strong> and Curtis <strong>Gunn</strong> Jr.; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other
