Edna Gertrude Gunn
daughter of Thomas B. and Mary E. P. Gunn died August 11, 1896 age twenty-four. In
offering this slight tribute to the memory of this most excelent and exemplary girl we
cannot forget those lovely traits of Christian character, so unostentatiously displayed which
Made her at once the solace and reposed of her parents; the comfort and joy of her only
sister and the trusted confidant of that small circle of intimate friends who best knew her
real worth. Always of a modest, quiet and gentle disposition, the thoughts of her early life
were given most to spiritual things and with her bible as her daily companion, she loved in
the quietude and privacy of her humble home, to muse on things pertaining to heaven and
the life beyond. She professed conversion under the ministry of the Rev. Dr. Wm. E.
Hatcher while on a visit to Richmond, and became a member of Grace Street Baptist
church; afterwards on her return to her native county, she joined the Bellefonte Baptist
church at Blackstone, Virginia where until the time of her premature death she adorned
the Christian life with a walk of quiet, gentle and unobtrusive piety which gained for her
the confidence, esteem and love of all who came in intimate contact with her or had
opportunity to observe in her daily walk the evidences of a true follower of the meet and
lovely Jesus. Sorrowful, indeed is the thought that a being so gentle and so loving should be
taken from us in the spring time of life, and we find but small consolation in the great truth
that All-that"s bright must fade, The brightest still the fleetest.
