<strong>Gunn</strong> who passed away in 1920. She is survived by four sons, four daughters, 38<br />

grandchildren. 48 great grandchildren,and one great great grandchild. The children are<br />

Jess I. <strong>Gunn</strong>, Mrs. Frannie Cockran, and Mrs. Herman Eminger of Portales,Mrs. Walter<br />

Griffith of Floyd; James S. and F.M. <strong>Gunn</strong> of Visalla, California, and Mrs. Lydia Kizer of<br />

Portland, Oregon. Funeral Services will be held Friday afternoon in the East Second Street<br />

Church of Christ with R.L. Allen being assisted by W.T. Garnett. Wheeler Mortuary will<br />

have interment ceremonies at the Floyd Cemetery. Six grandsons will carry the casket and<br />

the honorary bearers will consist of V.F. <strong>New</strong>man, J.D. Cyphers, Paul Eminger, Oscar<br />

Moote, Alfred Combs, E.C. Luna, Viril Griffith and John Laxson.The Portales Tribune-<br />

Eliza <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the First Presbyterian Church for<br />

Mrs. Eliza Woodside <strong>Gunn</strong>, 75, of 131 Court Rd., who died Monday in an automobile<br />

accident in Gowensville, S.C. Mrs. <strong>Gunn</strong> was the widow of Dr. Charles G. <strong>Gunn</strong>, pastor of<br />

the Glen Kirk Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two brothers,<br />

James Henry Woodside of Greenville, S.C., and John Lawrence Woodside of St.<br />

Matthew"s, S.C.; and a sister, Mrs. D. Houser Banks of St. Matthews"s, S.C. She is also<br />

survived by three sons, Charles Groshen <strong>Gunn</strong>, Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; the Rev.<br />

George Wilson <strong>Gunn</strong> of Atlanta, Ga., and James Woodside <strong>Gunn</strong> of <strong>New</strong> York, N.Y. The<br />

body was cremated this morning in South Carolina and will be sent to St. Louis, Mo., for<br />

interment. The <strong>New</strong>s Virginian, Waynesboro, Va Wed. 7-31-1974<br />

Eliza M. <strong>Gunn</strong> Peer<br />

Eliza Peer was born in O. Jan. 30th, 1838. In early life she removed with her parents to<br />

Pike Co., Ill., where she grew to woman-hood. Jan. 28th, 1858 she was united in marriage<br />

in Hannibal Mo. to Jas. D. <strong>Gunn</strong>. Until 1870, they resided in Ill. then moved to Buchanan<br />

Co, Mo., in the Mattox neighbor-hood about five miles north of Edgerton. Sister <strong>Gunn</strong> was<br />

the mother of thirteen children, nine of whom are yet living J. W. Cora, Mary, Julia,<br />

Albert, Minnie, Lena Ruben H. and Curtis B. In her girlhood she embraced Christ and<br />

became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and in after years became affiliated<br />

with the Baptist church in which church she was a consistant patient servant of her Christ.<br />

Through all her persecuations and afflictions, she never lost sight of her duty as a wife, a<br />

mother and a christian [sic]. To know her was to admire her. During the last few months<br />

she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Dr. Sympson of Edgerton. Here she became<br />

sorely afflicted with what was supposed to be cancer of the stomach. Her suffering was<br />

intense, yet she was very patient, and frequently mentioned Heaven and of her desire to<br />

depart and be with her Savior. She died triumph [sic] in a living faith Aug. 21st, 1900, age<br />

62 years, 7 months and 21 days. The funeral service was conducted by the writer at the<br />

Baptist church, after which she was quietly laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery, in the<br />

presence of a large company of relatives and friends. "Blessed are the dead who die in the<br />

Lord from henceforth; that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow<br />

them."<br />
