accident at the rail yard. Gunn was on a crane mounted on a rail car when he slipped on a
ladder and fell approximately 9 feet to the ground around 1:15 p.m. Police said he slipped
on hydraulic fluid, according to state police. A hydraulic hose had previously ruptured and
covered the crane"s surface with a fluid, said Painted Post State Police Inv. Jeff Miller.
"Everything is still under investigation," said Rudy Husband, regional representative of
Norfolk Southern Railroad. "At this point, we haven"t confirmed any of the
circumstances."Co-workers near the scene allegedly heard the fall and immediately
rendered assistance to Gunn. Rural-Metro Ambulance arrived at the scene and transported
Gunn to Corning Hospital where he was pronounced dead. "He did suffer head injuries,"
Miller said. "There was indication he hit his head." Additional information will be
available after Gunn"s autopsy is completed by the Monroe County Medical Examiner"s
Office in Rochester, New York.

CANISTEO - Donald L. Gunn, 55, of 3842 Upper Swale Rd., Cameron, passed away
Tuesday (Jan. 20, 2004) at Corning Hospital due to an accident at work. Born in Hornell,
Oct. 29, 1948, he was the son of Auldon L. and Elaine Talbot Gunn. Donald was a 1967
graduate of Canisteo Central School, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, at
which time he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW and a former
member of the Cameron Fire Department. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting,
fishing and gardening. He processed venison for himself and local hunters. He was also a
former midget wrestling coach. He was a Class I Equipment operator for the Norfolk &
Southern Railroad Co. He married Dorothea N. Pierce, Jan. 27, 1968, she survives. Also
surviving are two sons, Roger (Pamela) Gunn of Woodhull and Corbett Gunn (Bobbi
Vosburg) of Penn Yan; his daughter, Nicole Gunn at home; his brother, Louis (Elaine)
Gunn of Addison; his grandchildren, Samantha, Carter, Pierce and Nicholas Gunn; and
several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister,
Susan Papenthien. Friends may call Friday, Jan. 23, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the H.P. Smith &
Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St., Canisteo, where funeral and committal services
will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. Rev. Brian Diffenbacher will officiate.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

48, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. He was born in
West Palm Beach, FL on October 25, 1962. Don proudly fought for our country during
Desert Storm, serving in the U.S. Army. Donald's memory will be cherished by his
children, Donald D. Gunn, Johnny Gunn, Hunter Gunn and Dalton Gunn; mother, Ruby
Brooker; siblings, Roy (Angie) Gunn, Carl (Patty) Gunn, Margie (Jon) Kiely and Ralph
(Heather) Jones; along with many other family members and friends. A visitation will be
held 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Palms West Funeral Home
with a service beginning at 12:30 PM. Following services, Donald will be buried, with
