26, 2013 at HCR Manor Care in Anderson following a courageous, lifelong struggle with
the condition of Epidermolysis Bullosa (E.B.) – a very rare and debilitating skin disease. He
was born on December 2, 1966 in Elwood, the son of Larry E. and Jeannette (Huntsinger)
Gunn. Bruce worked as a computer data entry technician for 9 years at Janus
Developmental Services in Noblesville, and retired in 2007. He was a 1986 graduate of
Tipton High School, where he was known for being a basketball and sports reporter for the
high school newspaper, the “Devil’s Advocate”. He was a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Elwood. Bruce was an avid Indiana sports fan, especially I.U.
Basketball, Indianapolis Colts football, basketball star Larry Bird, and NASCAR driver
Jeff Gordon. He truly enjoyed working as a camp counselor for Camp Discovery in
Crosslake, Minnesota – a specialty camp for those coping with E.B. Disease. He also
formerly enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and talking about politics. Bruce beat the odds in
his life many times coping with his health condition, and this is especially true of reaching
the age of 46 – which makes him one of the oldest survivors of E.B. Disease. He will always
be remembered for being an inspiration to those close to him by showing tremendous
courage and hope. For this reason, Bruce was featured on the Discovery Channel, Dateline
NBC, and Channel 6 in news stories about how well he coped with his illness and managed
to keep a positive attitude. His family includes his father, Larry E. Gunn of Elwood; 2
brothers, Bryan T. Gunn (companion Carla McClish) and Bryce (wife Cathy) Gunn all of
Elwood; twin sister, Betsey A. Gunn of Noblesville; best friends, Bobby Morrisett and
Loraine Cameron; beloved pet cat, “Digit”; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeannette (Huntsinger) Gunn; paternal
grandparents, Thomas L. Gunn and Mary Coryell; maternal grandparents, William L. and
Ruth (King) Huntsinger; and step grandmother, Eva (Lane) Huntsinger. Funeral services
will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the First United
Methodist Church in Elwood with Rev. Chris Dare officiating. Burial will follow in the
Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 PM on Tuesday, January 29,
2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions may be
made to the American Academy of Dermatology – Camp Discover, through the funeral
