John <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (UPI) - — John <strong>Gunn</strong>, the leading rebounder on the Memphis State<br />

basketball team, died Tuesday Dec 21, 1976 at a Memphis hospital after an emergency<br />

tracheotomy for complications arising from a rare illness known as Stevens- Johnson<br />

syndrome. The 21-year-old Memphis youth suffered a partially collapsed lung and a drop<br />

in his Wood oxygen level before undergoing the emergency procedure. A nurse at the<br />

hospital confirmed <strong>Gunn</strong>'s death but said she had no more information. The 6-9 center was<br />

stricken with the rare condition Dec. 11 before Memphis State’s game with Baylor. <strong>Gunn</strong>,<br />

a 21-year-old junior, last played in a Dec. 9 game against Drake, where he scored 13 points<br />

and snatched 10 rebounds.<br />

Seaman of <strong>New</strong>'York and Mrs. Henry White of San Francisco. Her funeral took place at<br />

2:20 P. M. today.<br />

53, dies; Former Norfolk Man - (The Ledger Star, March 28, 1975) MECHANICSBURG,<br />

Pa. - J ohn Lindsey <strong>Gunn</strong>, (Jr.) 53, native of Norfolk and the son of Mrs. Eileen Kirby<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> and the late J. Lindsey <strong>Gunn</strong>, died here Friday. <strong>Gunn</strong>, a former advertising<br />

representative with the Ledger Star and The Virginian Pilot, and with a local advertising<br />

agency, was a graduate of the University of Virginia and a Marine veteran of World War<br />

II. Later, he went into government service and at the time of his retirement last year, he<br />

was director of the analysis branch of the Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg.<br />

Other surviers include his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Graham <strong>Gunn</strong>; a daughter. Miss Mary<br />

Lindsey <strong>Gunn</strong>; three sisters, Mrs. James A. Smith, Mrs. Edward H. Kavanaugh of Norfolk<br />

and Mrs. David Connery of Rockport Texas; two brothers, Air Force Lt. Col. William
