Donald Alan Gunn
Donald A. Gunn age 43 of Oxnard, Ca., passed away Oct. 6 1998 after a lengthy illness.
Donald was born June 16 1955 in Newport R.I. and had been a county resident for 38
years. He was a private consultant. Donald was a member of the Oxnard Chamber board
of directors from 1975 until 1978 He was Oxnard"s young man of the year in 1975 and a
campaign consultant for more than 20 years baking cookies for everyone. He is survived by
sisters Cathy Jarboe of Whittier Calif. and Becci Gunn of Oxnard; and brother Martin
Gunn of Carmichael Calif. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 17 at All Saints
10833 LeConte Ave. Los Angeles CA 90095-1781. On Oct. 6 1998 Oxnard and the county at
large lost a caring citizen -- not one who talked a good line but one who put his body and
time into making this grand county we live in a better place. He goes to where there is a
need for his talents to see friends and people he has helped in the past and to be waiting for
us his friends when we arrive. I"ll always remember the first time I met the kid he wasn"t
even able to vote yet but he wanted to help make Oxnard better. We were among some of
Oxnard"s finest people who believed the people of Oxnard should be able to "elect their
own mayor."From that campaign he worked for Tom Laubacher Al Jalaty Blinn Maxwell
and the list goes on well over 50 campaigns from judges to the DA"s office but school board
members and school bond elections were on top of his list. "The kids are our future" were
his exact words. The man worked planned put-out campaign signs and took them down
walked precincts did newspaper layouts and all the rest of the jobs that needed doing to
make a campaign work. This man the community caring person was my friend Don Gunn.
You did good Don. Chuck Arrangements are under the direction of Payton Mortuary.
