coupons: She remarked in 2007, "2-for-1 sales are almost a disease!" She looked forward to
each fall, when she would wash the kitchen windows, on the outside, sitting on the window
sill with her husband holding her by the knees. And when she had finished she would stand,
smiling, viewing the woods beyond with great satisfaction. Braiding rugs, stitching quilts,
cleaning curtains kept in use for forty years, ironing, knitting, and sewing on a 50-year-old
Singer Featherweight were all welcome pastimes. Her 20 rose bushes were both a joy and a
bane, with their weeding, and spraying, and fertilizing. Her pleasure was cutting one longstemmed
Sunset Celebration, putting it in a small tall vase of clear glass, and taking it to a
friend. A fan of the New Beetle, she was invigorated driving it at maximum legal speeds and
had no patience for "that elderly driver who doesn" t know where she is going." A lover of
history and the unique story of the Moravians, she was an eager communicator to children
during her 25 years of working at Old Salem as an interpreter at Winkler Bakery and a
school-tour guide. "What do you think was there, before that house was built?" she would
ask. As recently as last Saturday (October 25, 2008) she asked her great nephews, Ethan and
Titus Peltola, this question, as she guided family visitors from Oregon, through Old Salem to
the water pump handle, the gunsmith shop, and the bakery. Across her 50 years as a resident
of Winston-Salem she can claim involvement in the Samaritan Soup Kitchen, Forsyth
Hospital Surgery Waiting Room (receptionist), Meals on Wheels, and recently the Crisis
Control Ministry (intake volunteer) for citizens facing financial crises. As a member of
Highland Presbyterian Church, she saw a long-time dream of hers fulfilled in the creation
and care of the Memorial Garden on Magnolia Street, for the perpetual remembering of
prior members" lives. And she loved her family. The favorite quote of hers were the words of
one son when, at age 4 with the mumps, he said to her, "Mamma is a sweet boy." Ginny" s
immediate family today is: Charles Gunn, Jr., husband, of the home, sons Thomas Josiah
Jared Newton of Nashville, TN, Tamara Gunn of Los Angeles, CA, and Mary Evelyn Gunn
200 East Tenth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. There will be a memorial service for
