active with charitable and civic organizations beginning in high school and continuing<br />

through all her years as a military wife. She was involved with Breckenridge High School,<br />

Class of 1936, Chapel of the Centurion Protestant Women of the Chapel, past president of<br />

the Hampton Women"s Club for two terms, Langley Air Force Base Hospital volunteer<br />

from 1980-2002, founding member of the Fort Monroe chapter of Ikebana International of<br />

Japan, and a board member of the Transitions Family Violence Services. She was a<br />

sparkling hostess, avid flower lover, and loving and sympathetic friend to all who knew<br />

her. The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. on<br />

Monday, Dec. 2, with a reception following at the Magnolia House, 232 S. Armistead Ave.<br />

from 6 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the<br />

Chapel of the Centurion, Fort Monroe with a reception following at the Chapel Center.<br />

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10. If desired,<br />

memorials may be directed to Transitions Family Violence Services, P.O. Box 561,<br />

Hampton, VA 23669 or to the charity of your choice.<br />

Jim <strong>Gunn</strong>,<br />

65, Laurel, Ne. died May 26, 2011, at his home. Memorial visitation will be 9 a.m. to service<br />

time, May 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Laurel. Mass Of Christian Burial will be 10<br />

a.m., May 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Laurel, with Rev. James F. McCluskey<br />

officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel.<br />

Honorary pallbearers are Jim’s grandchildren. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery,<br />

Walthill. Stewart James <strong>Gunn</strong> was born March 27, 1946, at Watertown, S.D., to Marcus and<br />

Gladys (Comeau) <strong>Gunn</strong>. He graduated from Walthill High School and attended Springfield<br />

College, Springfield, S.D. He served the United States Army Reserves. Jim married Shirlee<br />

Ann Collins Nov. 8, 1969, at Walthill. The couple lived in Laurel the last 30 years. Jim was<br />

employed at in Great Plains Supply, Heritage Homes, Beef America, and most recently the<br />

City of Laurel. He was a member of Cedar View Country Club at Laurel. Jim is survived by<br />

his wife, Shirlee; children, JoAnn Hauptmann, Concord; Marcia and husband, Chad Spahr,<br />

Wayne; and Marc and wife, Jolean <strong>Gunn</strong>, Emerson; mother, Gladys <strong>Gunn</strong>-Carroll, Walthill;<br />

sister, Mary and husband, Jim Lowell, Oscoda, Mich.; and seven grandchildren Jim was<br />

preceded in death by his father, Marcus, and sister, Ardys<br />

Jim <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

Jim <strong>Gunn</strong> of Providence, NC who had a number of relatives in this area, died yesterday<br />

August 30, 1966 at 12:15 o'clock in a Reidsville hospital following three weeks of illness.<br />

Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> was a native of Caswell County, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jim <strong>Gunn</strong>. He was<br />

a farmer, and the husband of the late Betsy <strong>Gunn</strong>. Survivors include five sons Victor <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

and Jim Adam <strong>Gunn</strong> of Providence, John Henry <strong>Gunn</strong> and David <strong>Gunn</strong> of Yanceyville and<br />

Orlando <strong>Gunn</strong> of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, George <strong>Gunn</strong> of Yanceyville and Will<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> of Providence; 23 grandchildren 11 great • grandchildren three great-great • grand<br />

children. Final rites will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock a Pierson Chapel A. M.. E.<br />

Church in Yanceyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain Sharpe<br />

Funeral Home here until taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the service.
