his expertise and knowledge of the history and interpretation of the Hidatsa language. He<br />

was well respected for his knowledge of the Hidatsa traditions and history.One of his many<br />

accomplishments was the right to make traditional War Bonnets, which he continued<br />

throughout his life. He was recognized nationally and locally for his skill and mastery work<br />

in making War Bonnets.Fred enlisted in the United States Army. He served in WWII and<br />

in the Korean Conflict, serving 2 tours during his enlisted career with the Armed Forces.<br />

He was a member of the American Legion Post #300, until his health forced him to quit.He<br />

was known for his love of jokes and humorous stories and often had quick witty remarks<br />

for the KDU staff, family and friends. Fred truly was a man of faith who cared deeply for<br />

his family and friends. He touched the lives of so many people who will remember his<br />

generosity and kind-heartedness. He will be greatly missed by all.Fred is survived by his<br />

wife, Annabelle Marie <strong>Gunn</strong>; one daughter, Dorcas and husband Julian Sam, Stanfield,<br />

AZ; three sons, Mahlon <strong>Gunn</strong> of <strong>New</strong> Town, Fred <strong>Gunn</strong> III and wife Rae Lynn <strong>Gunn</strong> of<br />

Bismarck, ND, Faron <strong>Gunn</strong> of Bismarck, ND; two adopted daughters, Glenda Rush and<br />

Anna White of <strong>New</strong> Town, ND; one adopted grandson, Tony Iverson of <strong>New</strong> Town, ND;<br />

and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.<br />

NEW TOWN - Fred <strong>Gunn</strong>, 81, <strong>New</strong> Town, died Feb. 9, 2008, at St. Alexis Medical Center,<br />

Bismarck. Services were held Feb. 13 at Four Bears Community Center, <strong>New</strong> Town.<br />

Interment was in Shell Creek Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle; one<br />

daughter, Dorcas Sam, Stanfield, Ariz.; three sons, Mahlon, <strong>New</strong> Town, and Fred III and<br />

Faron, both of Bismarck; two adopted daughters, Glenda Rush and Anna White, both of<br />

<strong>New</strong> Town; one adopted grandson; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<br />

Fred Scott <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

29, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Wednesday (Dec. 17, 1997) at home. Born in St.<br />

Petersburg, he was a computer-assisted draftsman for AGRA Baymont in Clearwater for<br />

five years. He was a member of Horses for Handicapped. He was one of the first children to<br />

receive a specialized electric wheelchair from All Childrens Hospital. Survivors include his<br />

father, Fred P. <strong>Gunn</strong>, and his mother, Nancy E. Shaner, both of St. Petersburg; two sisters,<br />

Sarah E. Busto, Medford, Mass., and Tricia Keating, Aurora, Ill.; his maternal<br />

grandmother, Welda Bauer, Inverness; and his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Rix, Atlanta.<br />

Thrice decorated veteran is dead, Meridan, Mississippi. Jan 4, 1927 - Fred <strong>Gunn</strong>--formerly<br />

of Shelby County, Tennessee, who received three wartime decorations because of gallant<br />

service in giving first aid to wounded comrades in full view of the enemy, died in a<br />

government hospital in Curryville,Texas Sunday. Decorations were personally signed by<br />

WOODROW WILSON,one by PERSHING and the other by MAJOR GENERAL<br />

BULLARD. Funeral services were held in Jackson Mississippi, Tuesday. Death resulted
