care of Hospice Savannah. Mrs. Sparks was born in Bulloch Co. to the late Robert and<br />

Florrie Harley, she was a Savannah resident for most of her life, working and then<br />

retiring from Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Sparks was a member of Whitfield United<br />

Methodist Church, a huge Braves fan, loving mother, and grandmother and will be<br />

greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. Survivors include three sons Mr. Jesse<br />

(Sonny) and Barbara <strong>Gunn</strong> of Garden City, and Mr. William (Billy) and Debbie <strong>Gunn</strong> of<br />

Savannah, and Mr. S.M. and Barbara Sparks, two daughters, Mrs. Nell and Tony<br />

Ferraro, and Mrs. Blanch and Jack Scott, and a sister in law, Betty Harley, seventeen<br />

grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and<br />

several nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday, 11 a.m. at Hubert C. Baker<br />

Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Grover Bell officiating, burial at Hill Crest Abbey East<br />

Cemetery. There will be a visitation Wednesday from 5 to 7 at the Funeral Home.<br />

Memorial contributions to be made to Whitfield United Methodist Church, and Hospice<br />

Dorothy Gertrude <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

Dorothy Gertrude <strong>Gunn</strong>, born July 12, 1917 in Ontario, CA, and passed away Feb ruary<br />

23, 2004 in <strong>New</strong>port Beach, CA. The sixth of seven children, Dorothy was the daughter of<br />

Gertrude Maben and Alexander William <strong>Gunn</strong>. She was a resident of Ontario and later<br />

Upland for most of her life. As a graduate of Chaffey High School and Santa Barbara<br />

Teachers College, she served her community teaching upper elementary school for 30<br />

years, primarily in the Ontario Montclair School District. She taught at San Antonio,<br />

Monte Vista and El Camino Schools, and was one of the special teachers trained in the<br />

modern approach to social studies instruction. She was also an active member of Delta<br />

Kappa Gamma, the teacher"s professional sorority. In 1969, Dorothy retired and moved<br />

to Upland after the death of her mother whom she had taken care of for many years. Then<br />

in 2001, illness made it necessary for her to move to <strong>New</strong>port Beach, CA to be nearer to<br />

relatives. A world traveler,musician and gardener, Dot will always be remembered for her<br />

sense of humor which has been described as "extra dry with a twist." A f orgiving and<br />

kind soul, she was an avid animal lover who rescued many abandoned pets. Dorothy is<br />

survived by her youngest sister Patricia of Apple Valley, CA, many nieces, nephews, their<br />

children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held March 20, 2004 at 2 p.m. in<br />

the sanctuary at Bethel Congregational Church, 536 North Euclid Ave, Ontario, CA. In<br />

lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the West End Shelter for Animals,1010<br />

70, of Edgerton, KS, passed away March 31, 2011. Graveside services with inurnment at<br />

11:00 a.m. on Tues., April 5, 2011, at Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich, KS. Memorial<br />
