Clara M. <strong>Gunn</strong>,<br />

age 89, of 1831 South Lawn Ave. died July 18, 1973. She is survived by one half sister, Mrs.<br />

Lula Ford; two nieces, Mrs. Jean E. McGee of Highland Springs and Mrs. Mae McGee of<br />

Augusta, Ga. Remains rest at the Nelson Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2<br />

p.m. Friday. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Richmond Times Dispatch (VA) Thurs. 7-<br />

Clara Martin-Widow of Union Veteran Had been ill since his death last November. Mrs.<br />

Clare Martin <strong>Gunn</strong>, 77 years old, widow of Captain John Tevis <strong>Gunn</strong>, past commander of<br />

the Grand Army of the Republic who died last November, died early yesterday morning.<br />

Mrs. <strong>Gunn</strong> has been in failing health ever since her husband’s death and for the past two<br />

months had been seriously ill. She formerly was Miss Clare Martin of Shelbyville, a niece<br />

of Mrs. Julia T. Tevis, founder of the Science Hill Academy at Shelbyville. She had lived in<br />

Lexington for 50 years and three weeks before Captain <strong>Gunn</strong>’s death, they celebrated their<br />

fifty fourth wedding anniversary. She was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church<br />

and was the mother in law of Mrs. Julia Reese <strong>Gunn</strong>, secretary to the pastor of the church.<br />

A son John T. <strong>Gunn</strong>, Jr., is professor of language at Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind.<br />

The other surviving son Lucien <strong>Gunn</strong> is in business in Cincinnati. Another son Professor<br />

Henry <strong>Gunn</strong> died in Oregon last year. Her only daughter is Mrs. Charles S. Kay of<br />

Springfield, Ohio. Other surviving relatives include four nieces, Miss Fannie <strong>Gunn</strong>, Mrs.<br />

W. A. Hifner, and Mrs. R. S. Webb of Lexington, and Mrs. Jennie Lane of Manchester,<br />

Ohio and three Nephews; John W. <strong>Gunn</strong> of Lexington; Robert T. <strong>Gunn</strong> of Kentucky; and<br />

W. E. <strong>Gunn</strong> of Middlesboro. Funeral services will be held at the residence, 137 Woodland<br />

Avenue, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Reb V. O. Ward officiating. Burial in the<br />

Clara Mae <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

went to be with the love of her life, husband, George W <strong>Gunn</strong> on Sept. 5, 2009. She was also<br />

reunited with her daughter, Sharon Youngblood. She was born on a farm in Linn, Kan. to<br />

Thomas and Franie Dodd. She was the youngest of seven children. Clara worked in<br />

restaurants most of her life. She especially enjoyed working with the Price's at Gridiron<br />

and 50 yard line. She had a servant's heart which gave her pleasure in serving others.<br />

Those left to carry on her memory are children, Douglas and wife Tammy <strong>Gunn</strong> of<br />

Indiana, Michael and wife Jackie <strong>Gunn</strong> of Lubbock, Thomas and wife Connie <strong>Gunn</strong> of<br />

Colorado, and her baby girl Della <strong>Gunn</strong> of Lubbock; seven grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.<br />

A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Church<br />

Chapel. The family will be receiving friends at Sanders Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to<br />

7 p.m. 1420 -Main Street, Downtown Lubbock., Texas
