Ray E. <strong>Gunn</strong>,<br />

71, 724 Brookridge Ave.,Ames, Iowa, died here Sunday, Nov 6, 1951. He had been in ill<br />

health for the past three weeks. Born in Napa, Calif.. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> graduated from the<br />

University of California. He joined the- Robert Dollar Steamship Line and was sent to<br />

Shanghai, then Hong Kong where he was manager for eight years. In 1927, .he returned to<br />

the U.S., and joined the Iron Fireman Mfg. Co. as export-import manager. He later became<br />

assistant general sales manager for the company and lived in Cleveland Ohio for 17 years.<br />

He retired in 1947 and moved to Woodside, Calif., where he lived until the death of his first<br />

wife, Mary, in 1951. He came to Ames in I954. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> had traveled widely, and had<br />

acquired a collection- of furniture and antiques in his travels. His collection includes a<br />

bronze vase dating before Christ and a vase from the Imperial Palace in China, hand carved<br />

furniture and ivory and jade had been displayed in museums and libraries in this country.<br />

He was a member of the International Knickerbocker Club, Rotary International, a charter<br />

member and past president of the American Marketing Association and the past president of<br />

the Story County Tuberculosis Association. Survivors include his wife, Hazel; two daughters,<br />

Mrs. Nevin Kempthorne of Novato, Calif, and Mrs. Barbara Reinker of Cleveland, Oh.; six<br />

grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2<br />

p.m. from St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Paul Goodland officiating. Burial will<br />

be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moine, Ia.<br />

DURHAM, NC -- Funeral services for Ray Lee 'Joe' <strong>Gunn</strong>', 73, will be held at 2 p.m.<br />

Saturday at <strong>New</strong> Harris Grove Church, Bill Poole Road, Rougemont. Family visitation, 30<br />

minutes prior to service. He retired after 20 years from Stanley Hedgspeth Carpet.<br />

Survivors include sisters, Betty Mae Blackwell (Roland W) and Julia Marie <strong>Gunn</strong>; nieces,<br />

Rhonda B. Neal (James R), Annie K. Guest (Scott) and Joylette <strong>Gunn</strong>; nephews, Willie King,<br />

the Rev. J. Troy Blackwell (Kimberly W.) and Roland J. Blackwell. Viewing, 10 a.m. to 6<br />

Department of Transportation employee, widower of Marilyn Kress <strong>Gunn</strong>.Gazette-<br />

Virginian, South Boston, Va 11-23-2001 - Ray Wilson <strong>Gunn</strong> - Ray Wilson <strong>Gunn</strong>, 75, of<br />

Charlottesville, died November 18 at his home. Born December 2, 1925. in South Boston, he<br />

was the son of the late R. W. and Lucy Meador <strong>Gunn</strong> and was married to Marilyn Kress<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong>. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> graduated from Elon College and retired from the Virginia State Highway<br />

Department, Highway Research Council, and attended Hinton Avenue Methodist Church.<br />

Survivors include one son, Curtis A. Thompson of Boston, Ma.; one daughter, Valerie T.<br />

Daniels of Prince George, one sister Davis of Chapel Hill, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Verna
