Annie Gunn Herring
Commercial Appeal, The (Memphis, TN) - November 29, 1997 - Annie Gunn Herring, 93,
retired teacher with Tunica County Schools, died of chronic pulmonary disease Friday at
her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Home here with burial in
Oakwood Cemetery in Tunica. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sardis. Mrs.
Herring, the widow of Les Herring, leaves a sister, Rose Taylor of Jackson, a
granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any
memorials be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
Annie Gunn Andrews Cole
passed away Friday, December 29, 2006. Born in Blackstone, Va. in 1918, she was the
daughter of the late Harry R. and Annie Crowder Gunn. Annie lived most of her adult live
in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. She resided in Burkeville from 1975 until 2000, when she
moved into an assisted living facility at Virginia Beach. She was a member of Burkeville
Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Cole; and infant baby boy;
her sister, Charlotte Newcomb; and her brothers, Harry Gunn Jr., Trinkle Gunn, James
Gunn and Archie Gunn. Annie is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Martinette and
husband, Thomas; their three children, Kimberly Ives and husband, Robert of Virginia
Beach, Thomas Martinette Jr. and wife, Catherine of South Boston, and Kevin Martinette;
two great-grandchildren, Angela and Ethan Ives of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Franklin
Gunn of Crewe and Bryant Gunn of Norfolk; four sisters, Marguerite Nicholas of
Lynchburg, Cecile Millner and husband, Jesse of Newport News, Janie Ashworth of
Victoria, and Barbara Hudgins of Crewe. The family will receive friends and relatives from
7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3 at Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home, Crewe.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 4 at Burkeville Baptist Church,
where family will also receive friends one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Sunset
Hill Cemetery, Burkeville. Donations may be made to Burkeville Baptist Church.
