He was a member of the West Frankfort Police Auxiliary and was currently President of<br />

the East Fork Cemetery Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of<br />

Thompsonville. He was a member of the Miramar Police Department, Captain of the<br />

Hialeah Police Reserves, a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club and Moose<br />

Lodge, Shriners and Past Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge, all of Hialeah, Fl. Also the<br />

Hialeah Optismist Club, and was a Hialeah City Councilmen, where he made his home for<br />

forty years. He owned and operated <strong>Gunn</strong>"s Appliance Service. In 1988 he returned to<br />

Thompsonville to follow in his fathers footsteps to be a farmer. In 2002, he was honored as<br />

being chosen WSIL Channel 3 "Unsung Hero." Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> served in the United States Navy<br />

during the Korean War and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Funeral services will<br />

be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in<br />

Thompsonville, with the Rev. David Schlag and the Rev. Don Wilburn officiating. Burial<br />

will be in the East Fork Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. on Wednesday to the<br />

Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the<br />

church. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home by<br />

the Akin Masonic Lodge. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the American<br />

Legion of Thompsonville. Memorials can be made to the Franklin County Sheriff"s<br />

Department Youth Programs and will be accepted at the funeral home or the Sheriff"s<br />

Department.<br />

James L. <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Christian Union Congregational<br />

Church in West Groton for James L. <strong>Gunn</strong>, a former principal and superintendent of<br />

schools in Vermont and Massachusetts. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong>, formerly of Groton, died Sept. 20 in his<br />

daughter's home in Westhampton. He was 81 and lived in Venice, Fla. Born in Weare,<br />

N.H., he was a graduate of Weare High School and Springfield College. He received a<br />

master's degree in education from the University of Vermont. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> served as athletics<br />

director and assistant principal at the Hardwick Academy in Hardwick, Vt., from 1931 to<br />

1937. He was also principal of Vermont high schools in Marshfield, Bristol, and <strong>New</strong>port<br />

City He was superintendent of schools in Windham, Vt., from the late 1940s to the mid-<br />

1950s, and was superintendent of Groton schools for the next 16 years. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> retired<br />

and moved to Florida in 1971. He was president of the Ridgewood Park Mobile Home<br />

Association in Venice, Fla., and was a member of the Hardwick Masonic Lodge. He leaves<br />

his wife, Euthecia (Spencer); four daughters, Constance Richardson of Scituate, Euthecia<br />

Hancewicz of Westhampton, Deborah Smyth of Clarksburg, Md., and Priscilla Ryan of<br />

Somerville; two sisters, Amelia Leeds of Weare and Pauline Heath of Oceanside, Calif.;<br />

and six grandchildren.<br />

James L. "Peter" <strong>Gunn</strong>, Sr.<br />

Hattiesburg, MS - Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday at The Church of Jesus of<br />

Latter Day Saints for Mr. James L. "Peter" <strong>Gunn</strong>, Sr., 80 of Hattiesburg. He died<br />

Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Regency Hospital. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery<br />

with military honors. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> retired as building operator with Hercules, Inc. He served<br />

in the US Navy during the Korean War and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ<br />

of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Naomi Gatlin<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> and a brother, Charles L. <strong>Gunn</strong>, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Parker
