Jr. and Robert <strong>Gunn</strong> and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death,<br />

as did two sons, Billy and David <strong>Gunn</strong>; a sister, Elizabeth Smith and a brother, Guynn<br />

Smith. Pallbearers were James Dunn Seymour, T. W. Glithero, Gus Miller Jr., Jackie<br />

Brasher, Pet Crawford, Neville Miekow, Ernest Baumgart and Bill Larkin. The Weimar<br />

Kitty Johnson <strong>Gunn</strong> -<br />

Miami Union - August 12, 1897 Mrs. Kitty Johnson <strong>Gunn</strong>, wife of Rev. James <strong>Gunn</strong>, died<br />

at her home in Springfield, Illinois last Thursday, after a long and painful illness. The<br />

deceased was a native of Troy, where she spent her girlhood and the early portion of her<br />

married life. She will be remembered by the elder generation as a woman of rare sweetness<br />

and beauty of character. She was deeply loved by all who knew her worth as woman, wife<br />

and mother, and she leaves a large number of friends here to whom her life will remain a<br />

sweet and tender memory.<br />

Kitty <strong>Gunn</strong> Blackwell<br />

REIDSVILLE, N.C. - It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Rev. Dr. Kitty<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> Blackwell, 52 years old, of 2263 Stoney Creek School Rd., Reidsville, who died<br />

Thursday, May 20, 2004 in the Alamance Regional Medical Center, Burlington, NC. She<br />

was a native of Caswell County, NC, the daughter of David <strong>Gunn</strong> and Ethelyn <strong>Gunn</strong>, Born<br />

June 23, 1951. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Averett College in Danville,<br />

VA. She earned a Masters of Reading from NC A&T State University, Greensboro and a<br />

second Masters in Administration and Certification in Supervision. She also received a<br />

Doctorate of Theology in May 2001 from Jacksonville Theological Seminary, Jacksonville,<br />

Flordia. She formerly served as Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Supervisor for<br />

Reading and High School Curriculum. She retired from Assistant Superintendent of<br />

Caswell County Schools in charge of Testing and Curriculum. She also participated in<br />

numerous civic and community activities. Some of these include: Member and Chair of<br />

Caswell County Health Board, Caswell Area Transportation Board, Civic Center Outreach<br />

Committee, State Employees Credit Union, Etc. While an active member of Jones Cross<br />

Road Baptist Church, she served as a Deaconess, Financial Secretary, Announcing Clerk,<br />

Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Special Programs Coordinator, and VBS Coordinator. She<br />

was recognized as Caswell County Teacher of the year in 1979 and as an Outstanding<br />

Young Woman of America in 1986. She served on the Scholarship Committee for the<br />

Cedar Grove Association for several years. She was also a member of Caswell County<br />

Health Advisory Board and North Carolina Association of Educators, Etc. On November<br />

1994 she was licensed to preach at the Jones Cross Road Baptist Church. She was ordained<br />

by the Cedar Grove Association in April 1997 to serve as one of the Assistant Pastors at the<br />

Ebenezer Baptist Church and later she became Assistant Pastor at Gethsemane Baptist<br />

Church in Dry Fork, VA. She later was called to pastor the High Street Baptist Church in<br />

Milton, NC. She is survived by her loving and supporting husband of 29 years, Rev. John<br />

H. Blackwell; her daughter, Mrs. Kala Blackwell Taylor and Son-in-Law, Eric Taylor of<br />

Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her son, Justin Blackwell and special friend Ms. <strong>My</strong>ra Lloyd,<br />

Alexadria, VA; her parents, David and Mrs. Ethelyn <strong>Gunn</strong> of Yanceyville, NC; 3 sisters,<br />

Ms. Lucy <strong>Gunn</strong> of Yanceyville, Mrs. Warneda Long (Rev. Henry Long) of Yanceyville, and<br />

Mrs. Wylenne Thompson (Charlie Thompson) of Blairs, VA. Father and Mother-In-Law,
