Erna <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

Erna Marie <strong>Gunn</strong>, 75, of Desert Hot Springs died June 28, 2003, in Palm Springs of<br />

naturalcauses. She was born Jan. 6, 1928, to Charles Robert Hannoch and Ida Rebecca<br />

Griemsman in Los Angeles. She married Harold <strong>Gunn</strong> on Nov. 20, 1948, in Pasadena. She<br />

was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Harold of Desert Hot Springs; two<br />

daughters, Laura Roberts of La Quinta and Lisa Severns of Thousand Oaks; her son,<br />

Charles of Thousand Oaks; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will<br />

be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Oaks, Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth.<br />

Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park with Rose Mortuary of Desert Hot Springs in<br />

charge of arrangements. The family suggests donations be made to the Arthritis<br />

Foundation in Atlanta.<br />

Ethel <strong>Gunn</strong> Whaley Barnart<br />

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Ethel <strong>Gunn</strong> Whaley Barnhart, 101, went home to be with the Lord<br />

on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Funeral services for Mrs. Barnhart will be held at 11 AM<br />

Friday, January 22, 2010 at Mann Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverends<br />

Brandon Fulmer and Roger Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial<br />

Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in- law. Honorary pallbearers will<br />

be members of the C. W. Edwards, Jr. Sunday School Class. Mrs. Barnhart was preceded<br />

in death by her husband C. M. Barnhart, Sr., three brothers, a sister and her<br />

daughter-in-law, Janice S. Whaley. Mrs. <strong>Gunn</strong> was born in Louisville, Georgia May 4, 1908<br />

to the late Luther and Berdie <strong>Gunn</strong>. Mrs. Barnhart was a lifelong resident of Augusta and<br />

had been a member of Mann Memorial United Methodist Church and Sunday School<br />

Classes since 1942. She was active in the C. W. Edwards, Jr. Sunday School Class, United<br />

Methodist Women's Joy Group, a member of the Choir and Handbell Ensemble and was<br />

on the Administrative Board of the Church. She graduated from Tubman High School in<br />

1927 and was active in the Tubman High Alumnae Association. She worked at Bayvale<br />

Elementary School for 17 years and was a member of the Richmond County Retired<br />

Personnel. She was a member of the Bayvale, Burch Grand and later, the Betty Lamp<br />

Homemakers Organizations. She was a member of the Columbia Council #21 Daughters of<br />

America; The United Transportation Railroad Auxiliary and a member of The Red Hat<br />

Society. She is the beloved mother of Curtis E. Whaley of Gulf Breeze, Florida and C. M.<br />

"Butch" Barnhart, Jr. and his wife AnnaBell of Irmo, SC; seven grandchildren, Sandy W.<br />

(Rick) DuVall of Powder Springs, GA, Crystal B. (Scott) Strickland of Vidalia, GA, Eddie<br />

(Tammy) Whaley of <strong>New</strong>nan, GA, James P. (Dawn) Massalou of Irmo, SC, Steven (Leslie)<br />

Whaley of Acworth, GA, Clarence "Clay" A. (Heather) Barnhart, of Irmo, SC and<br />

AnnaBell B. (Drew) Buchanan of Rock Hill, SC; nine great grandchildren and a friend,<br />

Judy Jordan Hoekler. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Mann Memorial United<br />

Methodist Church, 2705 Milledgeville Road, Augusta, Georgia 30904. The family will<br />

receive friends Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 5-7 PM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home,<br />
