of Sweetwater, Tennessee died Wednesday, March 3, in Athens Regional Medical Center.
She was 89. Preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Celia Evans; brother, Tommy
Evans; sister, Ethel Camp; husband, James Emmett Gunn; two grandchildren, Kelly
Carpenter and Daniel Gunn; and one great-grandchild, Nakole Smith. She was a member
of Lees Chapel Baptist Church for 80 years. Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law: Ruby
and Murray Pettitt, Grace and Tommy Carpenter and Dorothy and Paul Thomas, all of
Sweetwater. Sons and daughters-in-law: Thomas Gunn, James and Judy Gunn of
Sweetwater; and Lester and Marie Gunn, of Madisonville. Sisters: MaryBell Jenkins of
Madisonville and Bertha Leonard of Sweetwater. Nineteen grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren
and four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The
family received friends from 6-9 p.m., Thursday, March 4, with the funeral at 2 p.m.,
Friday, March 5 in Sweetwater. The Revs. Paul Thomas and Randy Brannon will officiate.
Interment will follow in Christianburg Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Kyker Funeral Home in Sweetwater is in charge of arrangements.
