City, CA; her great-granddaughter, Heide <strong>Gunn</strong> of Midland, TX; and great-greatgrandson,<br />

Collin <strong>Gunn</strong> of Midland, TX. She will also be missed by her niece Judy Downey<br />

of East Longmeadow; and two sisters-in-law, Elsie <strong>Gunn</strong> of East Longmeadow and Ann<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> of Bradenton, FL. Doris <strong>Gunn</strong> was a gentle and loving lady - a treasure - who was<br />

raised in a caringg home and, in turn, provided the same for her husband and son. Her<br />

loss creates an empty place that will never be filled. We will miss her beyond expression.<br />

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. at Byron Funeral Home, 1858<br />

Allen St., Springfield followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Calling hours are<br />

Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.<br />

Doris R. <strong>Gunn</strong> Whitehead Phillips died very unexpectedly Sunday, February 1, 2004 at<br />

Hilltop Retirement Residence, Johnson City, NY, where she lived. She was born May 22,<br />

1914 and was the daughter of the late Fred and Gertrude Williams <strong>Gunn</strong>. She was<br />

preceded in death by her husbands, Emerson Whitehead and Wendell Phillips; and by one<br />

grandson, Raymond Whitehead. Doris is survived by her loving family of five children,<br />

Carlton and Helen Whitehead, <strong>New</strong> Milford, PA, Elaine and Joe Caso, Elmira, NY,<br />

Emerson and Eva Whitehead, Susquehanna, PA, Joel and Agnes Whitehead, Jackson, PA,<br />

Carol Timlin, Philadelphia, PA; one stepdaughter, Geneva; 16 grandchildren; two step<br />

grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.Doris was a<br />

lifelong committed member and volunteer of the community. She was a 50-year member<br />

ofGill Chapter 12 of the Order of the Eastern Star.A funeral service was held at the Tuttle-<br />

Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, with Pastor Joyce Allen officiating. In honor of Doris, a<br />

scholarship fund has been established. Donations may be sent to Memorial Scholarship<br />

Fund, Pennstar Bank, P.O. Box 175, <strong>New</strong> Milford, PA 18834.<br />

Commercial Appeal, The (Memphis, TN) - December 22, 1998 - , 61, of Indianapolis,<br />

formerly of Hernando, Miss., homemaker, died of heart failure Dec. 16 at her home.<br />

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kilton Church of Christ in Hernando with burial<br />

in the church cemetery. M.J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home Whitehaven Chapel has<br />

charge. She leaves her mother, Pearl Jackson, and a sister, Ruth Sharp, both of Hernando,<br />

and four brothers, Roy Jackson of Chicago, Elvin Jackson of Hernando, Carrell Jackson of<br />

Waukegan, Ill., and Earl Jackson of Indianapolis.<br />

Doris <strong>Gunn</strong> Smith (Dottie)<br />

Born on October 26, 1928, a native and long time resident of Mobile, Alabama, died at a<br />

local nursing home on Sunday, April 5, 2009. Mrs. Smith was a retired Mobile County<br />

School Bus Driver. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Howard<br />

Beautoir Smith, Sr. Survivors include her daughter, Rowena S. Smith (William) of<br />

Irvington, Alabama; two sons, Howard Beautoir Smith, Jr., (Viki) of Texas and Leslie<br />

Beautoir Smith (Vicki) of Malbis, Alabama; six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren;<br />

one sister, Betty Sue Gaston (Rev. Howard Gaston) of Mobile, Alabama; many nieces,<br />

nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 at<br />

Pine Crest Funeral Home on Saturday, April 11, 2009. Rev. Rufus Howard Gaston, Jr., will
