burial in Shadowlawn Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband<br />

of 45 years, Griffin <strong>Gunn</strong>, Jr., and a loving son-in-law, Charles A. Dorsey, Sr. She leaves to<br />

cherish her precious memories one daughter, Theresa "Rita" Dorsey of Compton, CA.,<br />

three sons, Griffin "Tick", III (Iola), Arthur "Jolly", Sr. (Malva), and Johnny "Jug"<br />

(Kay), all of Birmingham, AL.; three sisters, Mrs. Mable Dowdell, Mrs. Helen Jones, Mrs.<br />

Louise Thomas and one brother, Mr. Fred (Alma) Hudson, all of Birmingham, AL.; 11<br />

grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, Mrs. Marie Dorsey, Mr. Raymond Thomas and a<br />

Arthur <strong>Gunn</strong>, 68, of Coahoma, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at the Veterans<br />

Administration Hospital. Services are pending at <strong>My</strong>ers & Smith Funeral Home. Published<br />

Arthur <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

Services for Arthur Emory <strong>Gunn</strong>, 74, were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at<br />

Antioch Baptist Church. The Revs. Tom Swilley and Jim Beck officiated with burial in the<br />

church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> died<br />

Saturday, Feb. 24. Born in Lanett, Ala., he was a son of the late Alver Turner and Lois<br />

Duffee <strong>Gunn</strong> Sr. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was retired from Santee<br />

Print Works in Sumter. He was an avid coin collector and a wonderful husband, father and<br />

grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Louise Watford <strong>Gunn</strong> of Hartsville; daughters and<br />

sons-in-law, Tina and Randy Parnell and Artis and Mike Bailey, all of Hartsville, and<br />

Sherella and Larry Mayfield, Sheila Fordham, Sheryl and Steve Alewine, all of Heflin,<br />

Ala.; step-sons and spouses, Steve and Joann Wilkes and Allan and Sharon Wilkes, all of<br />

Hartsville, Lewis and Donna Wilkes of North Augusta, and Dennis and Brenda Wilkes of<br />

Bethune; brother, Jesse E. <strong>Gunn</strong> of Walnut Grove, Ga.; sisters, Thelma Gooden of<br />

Lafayette, Ala., Irma Black and Mildred Lott, both of West Point, Ga.; 20 grandchildren;<br />

and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Alver T. <strong>Gunn</strong> Jr. (John<br />

and Mary unknown <strong>Gunn</strong> of Caswell County, NC descendant) (John <strong>Gunn</strong> son of Thomas<br />

and Sarah Boatwright <strong>Gunn</strong>)<br />

Arthur Talmadge <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

Register - Danville, VA Thurs. 4-15-1982 - Arthur Talmage <strong>Gunn</strong> of 181 Linden Drive died<br />

Tuesday at his residence. He was born June 24, 1888, in Wentworth, N.C., a son of the late<br />

J. A. <strong>Gunn</strong> and Nannie Williams <strong>Gunn</strong>. He moved to Danville in 1912. He was married to<br />

the late Nina Lee Hester <strong>Gunn</strong> of Winston-Salem, N.C. She died Aug. 4, 1979. He retired<br />

from R. J. Reynolds Inc. in 1958 after 50 years of employment there. <strong>Gunn</strong> was in charge of<br />

volunteer mail service at The Memorial Hospital of Danville. He served on Danville City<br />

Council from 1923-1938, was a trustee of Main Street United Methodist Church and corecipient<br />

of the Kiwanis Citizenship Award with Mrs. <strong>Gunn</strong> in 1962. Surviving are one son,<br />

William B. <strong>Gunn</strong>, Harrisonburg; two brothers, Ira R. <strong>Gunn</strong>, Wilson, N.C., and R. W.<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> of South Boston; five great grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside<br />

services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Mountain View Cemetery by the Rev. LeRoy
