burial in Shadowlawn Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband
of 45 years, Griffin Gunn, Jr., and a loving son-in-law, Charles A. Dorsey, Sr. She leaves to
cherish her precious memories one daughter, Theresa "Rita" Dorsey of Compton, CA.,
three sons, Griffin "Tick", III (Iola), Arthur "Jolly", Sr. (Malva), and Johnny "Jug"
(Kay), all of Birmingham, AL.; three sisters, Mrs. Mable Dowdell, Mrs. Helen Jones, Mrs.
Louise Thomas and one brother, Mr. Fred (Alma) Hudson, all of Birmingham, AL.; 11
grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, Mrs. Marie Dorsey, Mr. Raymond Thomas and a

Arthur Gunn, 68, of Coahoma, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at the Veterans
Administration Hospital. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Published

Services for Arthur Emory Gunn, 74, were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at
Antioch Baptist Church. The Revs. Tom Swilley and Jim Beck officiated with burial in the
church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Gunn died
Saturday, Feb. 24. Born in Lanett, Ala., he was a son of the late Alver Turner and Lois
Duffee Gunn Sr. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was retired from Santee
Print Works in Sumter. He was an avid coin collector and a wonderful husband, father and
grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Louise Watford Gunn of Hartsville; daughters and
sons-in-law, Tina and Randy Parnell and Artis and Mike Bailey, all of Hartsville, and
Sherella and Larry Mayfield, Sheila Fordham, Sheryl and Steve Alewine, all of Heflin,
Ala.; step-sons and spouses, Steve and Joann Wilkes and Allan and Sharon Wilkes, all of
Hartsville, Lewis and Donna Wilkes of North Augusta, and Dennis and Brenda Wilkes of
Bethune; brother, Jesse E. Gunn of Walnut Grove, Ga.; sisters, Thelma Gooden of
Lafayette, Ala., Irma Black and Mildred Lott, both of West Point, Ga.; 20 grandchildren;
and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Alver T. Gunn Jr. (John
and Mary unknown Gunn of Caswell County, NC descendant) (John Gunn son of Thomas

Arthur Talmadge Gunn
Register - Danville, VA Thurs. 4-15-1982 - Arthur Talmage Gunn of 181 Linden Drive died
Tuesday at his residence. He was born June 24, 1888, in Wentworth, N.C., a son of the late
J. A. Gunn and Nannie Williams Gunn. He moved to Danville in 1912. He was married to
the late Nina Lee Hester Gunn of Winston-Salem, N.C. She died Aug. 4, 1979. He retired
from R. J. Reynolds Inc. in 1958 after 50 years of employment there. Gunn was in charge of
volunteer mail service at The Memorial Hospital of Danville. He served on Danville City
Council from 1923-1938, was a trustee of Main Street United Methodist Church and corecipient
of the Kiwanis Citizenship Award with Mrs. Gunn in 1962. Surviving are one son,
William B. Gunn, Harrisonburg; two brothers, Ira R. Gunn, Wilson, N.C., and R. W.
Gunn of South Boston; five great grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside
services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Mountain View Cemetery by the Rev. LeRoy
