officiating. Visitation on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until the hour of service.<br />

Arvenel L. <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

77, of Memphis, passed away May 6, 208 at Methodist University Hospital. She was a<br />

retired school teacher for Memphis City Schools, after 13 years at Booker T. Washington<br />

and 24 years at White Station Schools, member of Sigma Rho Sorority, Castalia Baptist<br />

Church, a Sunday School teacher and Missionary Society. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m.<br />

Saturday, May 10 at N. J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.<br />

Monday, May 12 at Castalia Baptist Church, 1540 Castalia St. Burial will be in Elmwood<br />

Cemetery. She leaves a daughter, Alisa G. McChriston; three grandchildren, Tambera<br />

Smith (Paul), Quinton <strong>Gunn</strong> and William McChriston; three-great-grandchildren, Samuel<br />

Smith, Zechariah Smith and Zephaniah Smith; a brother, Benjamin Reed (Mary), both of<br />

Chicago, IL; two God-daughters, Patrice Williamson of Baltimore, MD and Charlotte Faye<br />

Guy of Memphis, a best friend, Lillie Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,<br />

Asa Samuel <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

ELDON (Special) — Asa Samuel <strong>Gunn</strong>, 68, retired railroad conductor and active leader in<br />

American Legion activities, died Thursday Mary 19, 1960 at the Memorial Hospital in<br />

Jefferson City, Mo. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong>, who retired in January 1959 as conductor of the Rock<br />

Island Railroad, was a past commanderof the American Legion and a voyageur militaire of<br />

La Societe des 40' Hommes et 8 Chevaux, Capitol Voiture No. 1292, Jefferson City. He was<br />

a past master of the AF & AM and a past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.<br />

He was a past president, too. of the Order of Railroad Conductors and Brakemen. Mr.<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> was born Nov. 4, 1891, at Versailles to Samuel and Nancy Annie Mobley <strong>Gunn</strong>. He is<br />

survived by his wife, the former Miss Bertha Hawkins whom he married Aug. 7, 1924; a<br />

daughter, Mrs. W. H. Wolfrum of Artesia, N.M.; three brothers, S. E. and Edward <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

of Eldon and Ephraim <strong>Gunn</strong> of Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren. Funeral services<br />

will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the First Christian Church at Eldon. The Rev. C. N. Van<br />

Dyke, pastor, will officiate Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery (Thomas and Sarah<br />

VERSAILLES (Special) — Services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Versailles Methodist<br />

Church for Dr. A. J. <strong>Gunn</strong>, 78, one of the founders of the <strong>Gunn</strong> Clinic here, who died<br />

Friday May 8, 1959, after suffering a heart attack. Dr. <strong>Gunn</strong> was born in Morgan County,<br />

Oct. 7, 1880, the son of Dr.and Mrs. Gabriel M. <strong>Gunn</strong>. He was educated in the Barnes<br />

Medical College in St. Louis, getting his degree in medicine in 1904. He married Josephine
