Succumbs Former Police Jury Head, School Board Man Buried Saturday Funeral services<br />

were held at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 1952, for James<br />

Wiley <strong>Gunn</strong>, prominent Winn Parish, La. citizen who died early Friday afternoon at the<br />

age of 61 years, 11 months, and 27 days. Rites were conducted by the Reverends C. J. T.<br />

Cotton of Mt. Zion, Mrs. Lula Wardlow of Montgomery, and J. W. Lee of Natchitoches,<br />

and interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Masonic ceremonies at graveside.<br />

Pallbearers were J. E. Garner, Johnny Keiffer, Mack McGinty, Irvin Shaw, Frank Fredieu,<br />

and Ollie Bishop. A native of Bienville, La., Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> was born May 12, 1890, and<br />

affiliated with the Methodist Church at the age of 12. He was a member of Mt. Zion<br />

Church since 1942.<br />

James Wiley <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

of Wheeling Dies Friday, May 9, 1952 - James Wiley <strong>Gunn</strong>, 61 years, 11 months, and 27<br />

days of age, died at his home in Wheeling after a long illness. Prominent in parish affairs,<br />

Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> served as president of the parish police jury for four years, while a member of<br />

the governing body, and later represented Ward Five on the parish school board. Born<br />

May 12, 1890 at Bienville, La., he affiliated with the Methodist Church at the age of 12, and<br />

had been a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church since 1942. He was also a member of<br />

the Masonic Lodge, No. 168 F. & A. M., Montgomery. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> married Miss Jessie<br />

Francs Neal of Wheeling February 12, 1913, and to this union three sons were born, all of<br />

whom survive. He leaves his wife; three sons, James Jeff of Philadelphia; Murrell Harrison<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> of Montgomery, and Willard of ; four grandchildren; one brother, D. C. <strong>Gunn</strong> of<br />

Winnfield; four sisters, Mrs. Virginia Dyer, Cheneyville; Mrs. Mary Bartlett, Mrs. Grace<br />

Ernest and Mrs. Eunice Glofelter, all of El Paso, Texas. Funeral services were conducted<br />

Saturday, May 10, at 8 p.m. at Mt. Zion, with Rev. C. J. T. Cotton, pastor, Rev. Lula<br />

Wardlow of Montgomery, and Rev. J. W. Lee of Natchitoches, officiating. Burial was in<br />

Mt. Zion Cemetery with graveside services being conducted by the Masonic Lodge. Active<br />

pallbearers were J. E. Garner, Johnny Keiffer, Mack McGinty, Irvin Shaw, Frank Fredieu,<br />

and Ollie Bishop. Honorary pallbearers were Cheston Stevens, Willard Kilpatrick, Owen<br />

Wardlow, F. G. Wardow, W. P. Williams, Conley Strickland, T. W. Fowler, Henry Keiffer,<br />

Howard Kilpatrick, E. W. McGinty, J. T. McLamore, Dr. M. M. Kuhlman, and Ed<br />

Mitchell.
