Douglas E. Gunn,
61, of Evansville, Indiana passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital.
Mr. Gunn was employed at Shelf Stable Foods for over 10 years and later as a selfemployed
roofer. Doug served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Surviving are his two sons, James Neal Newton and his wife, Jamie, of Slaughters, Ky., and
Daniel E. Newton of Evansville; three sisters, Margaret Townsend, Linda Merrick and her
husband, Art, and Debbie Roper, all of Evansville; and one brother, Ray "Blu" Gunn of
Evansville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, James Douglas Newton and Justin
Andrew Newton, a longtime friend, JoAnn Newton, nieces and nephews, great nieces and
nephews and many close friends. Mr. Gunn was preceded in death by his parents, Welby
"Tub" and Maxine (Michael) Gunn and sisters, Evelyn Lewis and Paula Hogan. Funeral
services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev.
Robert Nall officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. where the Retired
Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from
2 to 8 p.m. today at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street
Douglas L. "Pete" Gunn
Graveside services for Douglas L. "Pete" Gunn, 58, of Broaddus will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, September 24, 2003 in the Broaddus Cemetery with Bishop Paul Risk
officiating. Mr. Gunn was born on July 5, 1945 in Reno, Nevada to Janice (Timms) and
Lester Gunn and died on Monday, September 22, 2003 in Nacogdoches, TX. He resided in
Broaddus for the past 30 years and formerly resided in Houston. Mr. Gunn was an
equipment operator with the street department of the city of Nacogdoches. He served in the
U. S. Army for three years and as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints. Prior to his employment with the city of Nacogdoches, he worked as a fishing guide
on Lake Sam Rayburn for the past 25 years. Survivors include his son and daughter-inlaw,
Jason and Amanda Gunn of Zavalla; grandson, Shannon Gunn of Zavalla; parents,
Lester and Janice Gunn of Fruit Heights, UT; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Phillip
Duarte of Cloverdale, CA. Mr. Gunn was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester
Edward Gunn and Earl Ray Gunn. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
