4.7.5 Frequency-Converting Measurements<br />

Tracking Generator – Option R&S FSU-B9<br />

For frequency-converting measurements (e.g. on converter units) the tracking generator<br />

is able to set a constant frequency offset between the output frequency of the<br />

tracking generator and the receive frequency of the R&S <strong>FSQ</strong>.<br />

Up to an output frequency of 200 MHz the measurement can be carried out in both<br />

inverted and normal positions.<br />

The FREQUENCY OFFSET softkey activates the input of the frequency offset<br />

between the output signal of the tracking generator and the input frequency of the<br />

R&S <strong>FSQ</strong>. Possible offsets are in a range of ±200 MHz in 0.1 Hz steps.<br />

The default setting is 0 Hz. Offsets 0 Hz are marked with the enhancement label<br />

FRQ.<br />

If a positive frequency offset is entered, the tracking generator generates an output<br />

signal above the receive frequency of the R&S <strong>FSQ</strong>. In case of a negative frequency<br />

offset it generates a signal below the receive frequency of the R&S <strong>FSQ</strong>. The output<br />

frequency of the tracking generator is calculated as follows:<br />

Tracking generator frequency = receive frequency + frequency offset.<br />

Remote command: SOUR:FREQ:OFFS 50MHz<br />

The MODULATION softkey opens a submenu for selecting different modulation<br />

modes.<br />

The time characteristics of the tracking generator output signal can be influenced by<br />

means of external signals (input voltage range -1 V to +1 V).<br />
