2.5.2.1 Measurement Example – Displaying the AF of an FM Carrier<br />

Test setup<br />

Settings on the signal generator (e.g. R&S SMIQ)<br />

Measurement with the R&S <strong>FSQ</strong><br />

1. Set the R&S <strong>FSQ</strong> to the analyzer mode<br />

➢ Press the SPECTRUM key.<br />

The R&S <strong>FSQ</strong> is in the analyzer mode.<br />

Measurements on Modulated <strong>Signal</strong>s<br />

Frequency: 100 MHz<br />

Level: -30 dBm<br />

Modulation: FM 0 kHz deviation (i.e., FM = off), 1 kHz AF<br />

2. Set the center frequency to 99.64 MHz and the span to 300 kHz.<br />

➢ Press the FREQ key and enter 99.64 MHz.<br />

➢ Press the SPAN key and enter 300 kHz.<br />

3. Set a resolution bandwidth of 300 kHz.<br />

➢ Press the BW key.<br />

➢ Press the RES BW MANUAL softkey and enter 300 kHz.<br />

4. Set a display range of 20 dB and shift the filter characteristics to the middle<br />

of the display.<br />

➢ Press the AMPT key.<br />

➢ Press the RANGE LOG MANUAL softkey and enter 20 dB.<br />

➢ Press the NEXT key.<br />

➢ Set the GRID softkey to REL.<br />

➢ Press the PREV softkey.<br />

➢ Using the rotary knob, shift the reference level so that the filter edge intersects<br />

the - 10 dB level line at the center frequency.<br />

The slope of the 300 kHz filter is displayed. This corresponds to the<br />

demodulator characteristics for FM signals with a slope of approx. 5 dB/100<br />

kHz.<br />
