or partitions are indicated to support fixtures, equipment, services, casework, heavy trim and
furnishings, and similar work requiring attachment to the wall or partition. Where type of
supplementary support is not otherwise indicated, comply with stud manufacturer's
recommendations and industry standards in each case, considering weight or loading
resulting from item supported.
G. Frame wall openings larger than 2'-0" square with double studs, of gauge indicated, at each
jamb of frame except where more than 2 are either shown or indicated in manufacturer's
instructions. Install runner tracks and jack studs above and below wall openings. Anchor
tracks to jamb studs with stud shoes or by welding, and space jack studs same as full-height
studs of wall. Secure stud system wall opening frame in manner indicated.
H. Frame both sides of expansion and control joints, with separate studs; do not bridge the joint
with components of stud system.
I. Install horizontal stiffeners in stud system, spaced (vertical distance) at not more than 4'-6"
o.c. Weld at each intersection.
J. Erection Tolerances: Bolt or weld wall panels (at both horizontal and vertical junctures) to
produce flush, even, true to line joints.
1. Maximum variation in plane and true position between prefabricated assemblies
should not exceed 1/16 inch.
K. Field Painting: Touch-up shop-applied protective coatings damaged during handling and
installation. Use compatible primer for prime coated surfaces; use galvanizing repair paint for
galvanized surfaces.
3.02 SHEATHING, INSTALLATION
A. Preparation:
1. Examine subframing and verify that surface of framing and furring members to
receive sheathing does not vary more than 1/4" from the place of faces of adjacent
members.
B. Install sheathing in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and applicable instructions in
GA-253 and ASTM C 1280.
1. Install Dens-Glass Gold sheathing with gold side out.
2. Use maximum lengths possible to minimize number of joints.
3. Attach sheathing to metal framing with screws spaced 8" o.c. at perimeter where
there are framing supports; and 8" o.c. along intermediate framing in field.
4. Drive fasteners to bear tight against and flush with surface of sheathing. Do not
countersink.
5. Locate fasteners minimum 3/8 inches from edges and ends of sheathing panels.
6. Building paper: Install building paper or equal with flashing around openings.
C. Finishing:
1. Seal fasteners with sealant.
2. Finish joints with sealant. Reinforce with 2" wide 10 x 10 glass mesh tape.
D. Painted Ceilings and Soffits:
1. Joint treatment and finish preparation:
a. Apply joint tape over joints and embed in setting-type joint compound
specified.
