SECTION 16723 – FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 WORK INCLUDED:
A. The Contractor shall furnish and install fire alarm devices, as specified herein and indicated
on the drawings.
B. Replace existing main fire alarm control panel. Extend all existing fire alarm initiating,
notification, auxiliary power, and relay shout down circuits to new head end equipment
location. Add additional horn/strobe power supplies as required to accommodate new and
existing initiating and warning devices (detectors, call stations, strobes, horns, tamper
switches, door holders, etc.).
C. Provide all signal initiating devices, audible and visual alarm devices, power supply, a wiring
system, and all accessory devices required to provide a complete operating system.
D. All components shall be compatible with the existing system.
E. Provide new duct smoke detectors and fan relays at all fan units 2000 CFM and over. Shut
down all supply and return fans upon a general alarm signal.
F. Provide vandal resistant cages to protect horn/strobes, smoke and heat detectors as
indicated and in gyms whether shown or not. Securely fasten security cages as required.
Provide backing and bracing as required to insure that attachment extends beyond the ceiling
materials. Cages shall have two pieces, one backplate and one cover to attach to backplate.
Provide cages/guards on horn/strobes that are clear and do not limit their effect on the field
performance with the listing requirements.
G. The system shall comply with the applicable provisions of the National Alarm Code (NFPA
72), Americans with Disabilities Act, and meet all requirements of the local authorities having
jurisdiction. All equipment and devices shall be listed by the Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc.,
or approved by the Factory Mutual Laboratories.
H. Comply with NEC as applicable to construction and installation of fire alarm and detection
system components and accessories. Provide components and systems, which are UL-listed
and labeled for fire alarm. Provide fire alarm and detection systems and accessories, which
are FM approved. Comply with State and local requirements as applicable.
I. Ensure that the fire alarm supplier has a minimum of (1) NICET level four and (3) NICET level
three technicians on staff.
J. Comply with applicable provisions of current NFPA Standard 72 National Fire Alarm Code (as
applicable), local building codes, and meet requirements of local authorities having
jurisdiction.

A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division-1 Specification sections, apply to work of this section.
