1. General: Provide zinc-coated fasteners for exterior use or where built into exterior
walls. Select fasteners for the type, grade, and class required.
2. Bolts and Nuts: Regular hexagon head type, ASTM A 307,Grade A.
3. Lag Bolts: Square head type, FS FF-B-561.
4. Machine Screws: Cadmium plated steel, FS FF-S-92.
5. Wood Screws: Flat head carbon steel, FS FF-S-111.
6. Plain Washers: Round, carbon steel, FS FF-W-92.
7. Masonry Anchorage Devices: Expansion shields, FS FF-S-325.
8. Toggle Bolts: Tumble-wing type, FS FF-B-588, type, class, and style as required.
9. Lock Washers: Helical spring-type, carbon steel, FS FF-W-84.
O. Nonshrink Nonmetallic Grout: Premixed, factory-packaged, non-staining, noncorrosive,
nongaseous grout complying with CE CRD-C621. Provide grout specifically recommended by
manufacturer for interior and exterior applications of type specified in this section.
P. Brackets, Flanges, and Anchors: Cast or formed metal of the same type material and finish
as supported rails, unless otherwise indicated.
Q. Concrete Inserts: Threaded or wedge-type; galvanized ferrous castings, either malleable iron,
ASTM A 47; or cast steel, ASTM A 27. Provide bolts, washers, and shims as required, hot-dip
galvanized, ASTM A 153.
2.02 OTHER MATERIALS
A. Other materials not specifically described but required for a complete installation, shall be
new, free from rust, best quality of their respective kinds.
2.03 FABRICATION, GENERAL
A. Fabricate miscellaneous metal in accordance with the approved shop drawings and
referenced standards.
B. Workmanship: Use materials of size and thickness indicated, or if not indicated, as required
to produce strength and durability in finished product for use intended. Work to dimensions
indicated or accepted on shop drawings, using proven details of fabrication and support. Use
type of materials indicated or specified for various components of work.
C. Form exposed work true to line and level with accurate angles and surfaces and straight
sharp edges. Ease exposed edges to a radius of approximately 1/32" unless otherwise
indicated. Form bent metal corners to smallest radius possible, without causing grain
separation or otherwise impairing work.
D. Unless otherwise indicated on the Drawings, weld all shop connections. Comply with AWS
recommendations. Make all joints and intersections of metal, tight fitting and
securely fastened. Grind exposed welds smooth. Make work square, plumb, straight, and
true.
E. Drill or punch holes required for the attachment of work of other trades and for bolted
connections. Burned holes are not acceptable.
F. Intersecting steel shapes that are not bolted are to be connected by a fillet weld all around.
Fillet weld sizes that are not shown shall be 1/16" less than the thinnest of the connected
parts for thicknesses 1/4" and larger. Fillet welds on plates less than 1/4" shall be of the same
size as the thinnest of the connected part.
