adequacy of adhesion or embedment by visual observation, as judged by the
Architect or Inspector.
a. If sample unit is judged to exhibit less than 70 percent minimum
adhesion or embedment of the materials surface area, adjacent
insulation units will be removed by the same method until it can be
demonstrated that minimum adhesion is consistently being
achieved.
b. De-lamination of insulation surface does not constitute failure of
adhesion, but is rather a demonstration thereof.
c. Adhesions and/or embedment are defined as the process of
pressing a felt, aggregate, fabric, mat, or panel uniformly, and
completely into hot bitumen or adhesive to ensure intimate contact
between materials at all points within limits indicated.
2. Testing by Sample Test Cuts: It is the Owner’s intent to avoid destructive
testing of the completed roof membranes, but the right is reserved to conduct
testing when conditions of installation give cause to question the integrity of
the installation.
a. If sampling reveals non-compliance with requirements, Contractor
shall be responsible for payment of costs to make corrections and
repair test sampling.
b. If sampling reveals compliance with requirements, Owner will pay
cost of test sampling at the rate of $100 per cut, including initial
sampling and subsequent repairs by the Contractor.
3.09 PROTECTING AND CLEANING
A. Protect roofing system from damage and wear during remainder of construction
period. When remaining construction will not affect or endanger roofing, inspect
roofing for deterioration and damage, describing its nature and extent in a written
report, with copies to Architect and Owner.
B. Correct deficiencies in or remove roofing system that does not comply with
requirements, repair substrates, and repair or reinstall roofing system to a condition
free of damage and deterioration at time of Substantial Completion and according to
warranty requirements.
C. Clean overspray and spillage from adjacent construction using cleaning agents and
procedures recommended by manufacturer of affected construction.
