Abstract
Literary analysis has been relatively little explored in Behavior Analysis. It is possible
to perform a contingency analysis with works of literature starting from the assumption
that characters in a story behave like people in natural situations and are, therefore, under
the same laws which influences human behavior. This paper analyzes a short story, “Os
Moralistas” by Luis Fernando Veríssimo, exploring the stimulus control involved in the
responses of different characters. This analysis allowed specifying contingencies in terms of
antecedents, responses and consequences in three analysis levels: discriminative, conditional and
contextual control from the short story available data. And also allowed perform some inferences
about characters’ future behavior.
