three specimens there are traces of red ancl bJack paintee! decoration, with
hlack paralJel lines reminiscent of the decoratian on Isthmian figurinE'
though in fo rlll they differ greatly from the latter.
A few millor obiecls of interest are shown in (photo K ). There are
the bowls of two pipes, un doubtedly for smoking tobacco, the inside
bl ackened. The,e are 4 ancl S cm. in length. The general form Ís ver)"
close to that of the modern pipe. They are of hard-baked pottery, unpainted,
but clecorated with fine incised lines or carving, somewhat recalling
the fine pottery carving of the Tairona of Santa Marta, Colombia.
"Elbow" pipe-bowls in this region are a su rprising and puzzling discovery
and point to reJationships in a very different direction, . Tobaccosmoking
