Se o alinhamento internacional do PCP de subordinação ao centro do sistema
soviético num clima internacional de Guerra Fria, com os seus ímpetos, abrandamentos
e recomposições, exerceu impacto profundo nas orientações partidárias, sempre um veio
nacional, bebido numa tradição cultural republicana radical e “desenvolvimentista” se
lhe associou em tensão maior ou menor, mas permanente.
Porém, o Partido Comunista nunca perderia de vista, independentemente de
flutuações, conjunturas e heranças culturais que as suas políticas com vista ao derrube
do regime se subordinavam à disputa acesa pela hegemonia das oposições e por não
ficar de fora de uma qualquer solução que se pudesse desenhar derrubado o regime.
O PCP foi nestes anos, por um lado, o resultado deste feixe tenso de forças que,
por outro lado, frequentemente conflituaria ainda com a pulsão dos sectores partidários
e sociais mais radicalizados.
Neste encadeamento de processos complexos e contraditórios, o PCP, vencido o
enquistamento sectário e o seu lastro, sempre apostou mais no enquadramento das vozes
e dos movimentos discordantes do que na sua anulação por exclusão e violência
partidária, que também exerceu.
Mas, com efeito, o Partido Comunista nunca abandonaria significativamente a
tradição estalinista que lhe foi matricial a partir da reorganização de 1940-41 e que lhe
permitiu, escorado num conjunto de procedimentos de raiz centralizadora, hierarquizada
e compartimentada, casados com uma rigorosa cultura de clandestinidade, resistir
melhor ou pior, mas resistir, às sucessivas e constantes investidas policiais.
ABSTRACT
Between 1949, when Álvaro Cunhal was imprisoned, and 1965, in the 6 th
Congress of the Portuguese Communist Party, when the formal prevalence of his thesis
materialised, the party lived hard years and drifts of political lines, characterised by
intense debate as well as internal crises.
The fierce supporter of the early 1950s, Álvaro Cunhal – after the strong
influence of the 20 th Congress of the Soviet Union Communist Party as well as of old,
very firm political concepts – became a rightward shift, who slowly had substituted the
doctrinal foundations he, himself had conceived: of an independent working class both
as the main basis of a policy of alliances and the way to the national rebellion to
overthrow the regime.
After his audacious escape from prison at the beginning of the year 1960, Álvaro
Cunhal would proceed to rectify that “deviation”: he would recover the “national
rebellion line”, as it is synthesized into principles and theories in “Rumo à Vitória”
(Towards Victory), a fundamental document which is the basis of the program approved
in the Congress in 1965.
If it is a fact that the international alliance of the Portuguese Communist Party
and the Soviet system – one of subordination in an international climate of ‘Cold War’,
with impetus, decreases and recoveries – had a deep impact upon the party’s orientation,
