CHAPTER 46 Duplex Sonography of the Neonatal and Infant Brain 1589

FIG. 46.21 Pitfall: Arterial and Venous Overlay on Spectral Flow

Curve. Simultaneous sampling of the arterial low within the pericallosal

artery and adjacent inferior sagittal sinus may mimic a reversal of the

diastolic low with incorrect calculation of the resistive index values.

slow-low vessels, deep-seated vessels, and supericial vessels

obscured by the calvarial bone or outside the acoustic window

may be overlooked. A dedicated familiarity with the studied

pathologies is a sine qua non for sensitive and speciic duplex

sonography.
