2.6 AMASU OKUFUNDISA UKUFUNDA OKUBHALIWE (TEACHING<br />

STRATEGIES OF READING)<br />

Kungumsebenzi kathisha ukuqinisekisa ukuthi indawo afundisela kuyo ikulungele<br />

ukufunda ukuze abantwana bakwazi ukubamba iqhaza ekufundeni. Enye yezinto<br />

ezisemqoka ukuba uthisha akhethe amasu okufundisa afanele izingane zakhe ekilasini.<br />

Othisha basebenzisa amasu athile ukulekelela abantwana ukuba bathuthuke ekufundeni<br />

okubhaliwe. Ngenxa yokuthi izingane azifani, yileyo naleyo ngane yehlukile kwenye,<br />

uthisha kumele abheke lapho ekhetha amasu okufundisa ukufunda okubhaliwe ukuze<br />

aqiniseke ukuthi ayahambelana nezidingo zabantwana bakhe. Okukhulu kunakho konke,<br />

njengoba kunezindlela namasu amaningi ehlukene asetshenziswayo ekufundiseni<br />

izingane ukufunda okubhaliwe, okusemqoka ukuba into emqoka igcinwe isemqoka.<br />

Lokhu kusho ukuthi, into emqoka ukusiza abantwana ukuba bakwazi ukufunda<br />

okubhaliwe futhi bakuthande. UDuffy (2009) ubeka kanje ukufakazela lokhu:<br />

There is an old saying: “The main thing is to be kept the main thing.”<br />

….explaining skills and strategies is not the main thing in teaching reading.<br />

The main thing is to inspire students to be readers. If we teach skills and<br />

strategies, but our students do not become readers, we fail. So, we must keep<br />

the main thing the main thing.<br />

Ngala mazwi acashunwe ngenhla, kuyacaca ukuthi into esemqoka ekufundiseni ingane<br />

akukhona ukuba kuchazwe izindlela zokufundisa kanye namasu, kodwa okumqoka ukuba<br />

ingane isizwe ukuba ikwazi ukufunda okubhaliwe, ukuze ibe ngumfundi wombhalo<br />

ophumelelayo. Ngamanye amazwi izindlela namasu okufundisa ukufunda okubhaliwe<br />

akusiyona into emqoka, kodwa okumqoka yinoma yini uthisha angayenza ukulekelela<br />

ingane ukuba ikwazi ukufunda okubhaliwe ngempumelelo. Ngaleyo ndlela, lokhu kusho<br />

ukuthi akukho neyodwa indlela noma isu okungathiwa yilonalona elifanele ukufundisa<br />

ingane ukuze iphumelele, kodwa yilokho uthisha akwenzayo kanye nokuthi ukwenza<br />

kanjani okuyizona zinto ezisemqoka. Lokhu kungenxa yokuthi amanye amasu angafanela<br />

ukusetshenziswa kwabanye abafundi, kodwa angasebenzi komunye umfundi.<br />
