4.7.4.1.3 ULWAZIMAGAMA (VOCABULARY)<br />

Ngokwejwayelekile, ulwazimagama (vocabulary) ulwazi lwamagama noma lwezincazelo<br />

zamagama okufanele umfundi awazi lapho efunda okubhaliwe; awazi kanye nezincazelo<br />

zawo. Kodwa-ke ulwazimagama yigama elithe ukujula kunale ncazelo. Okokuqala,<br />

amagama angaba ngabhaliwe kumbe ngakhulunywayo. Ulwazimagama lwamagama<br />

akhulunywayo (oral vocabulary) luhlanganisa amagama esiwaziyo futhi esikwazi<br />

ukuwasebenzisa ekulaleleni nasekukhulumeni. Ngakolunye uhlangothi ulwazimagama<br />

lwamagama abhalwe phansi (print vocabulary) luhlanganisa amagama esikwazi<br />

ukuwabona siwaqonde lapho sifunda umbhalo kumbe sibhala. Okwesibili, ulwazi<br />

lwamagama lunezinhlobo ezimbili, okungaba yi-receptive ne-productive form. Lapho<br />

sikhuluma ngolwazimagama olu-receptive, sikhuluma ngalawo magama esikwazi<br />

ukuwezwa ngezindlebe futhi siwabone ngamehlo.<br />

Kanti lapho kukhulunywa nge-productive vocabulary lapho kushiwo lawo magama<br />

esiwasebenzisa lapho sikhuluma noma sibhala. Ngale ndlela, i-receptive vocabulary ithe<br />

ukwendlaleka kune-productive vocabulary, futhi ihlanganisa namagama amaningi<br />

ukuthi:<br />

Comprehension is the essence <strong>of</strong> reading because the goal <strong>of</strong> written language<br />

is communication <strong>of</strong> messages. If we do not understand the message, we are<br />

not reading. And vocabulary is fundamentally important for understanding the<br />

message. (p. 14)<br />

Ngakho-ke ukuze abantwana bathuthuke ekufundeni okubhaliwe, kumele babe nolwazi<br />

lwezincazelo zamagama futhi bakwazi nokuwaqonda. Ukwazi izincazelo zamagama<br />

amaningi kunyusa isivinini sokufunda kanye nokuqondisisa umbhalo (DoE, 2008, p. 16).<br />

Amanye amagama umntwana uyakwazi ukuzitholela yena embhalweni, elandela indlela<br />
