Kokubili-ke isiZulu njengolimi lwasekhaya nanjengolimi lokwethekelwa<br />

kwakutholakala emakolishi. Emanyuvesi kuze kube manje, isiZulu siyafundwa othisha<br />

abaqeqeshwayo. Eminyakeni ephambili isiZulu besifundwa ngesiNgisi emanyuvesi<br />

amaningi, njengase-UNISA, i-<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Natal</strong>, kanye ne-<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Zululand.<br />

Ngaleyo ndlela baningi othisha abathola uqeqesho ekufundiseni isiZulu kodwa bebe<br />

beqeqeshwa ngesiNgisi. Kuhambe kwahamba amanyuvesi akushintsha lokhu ngenxa<br />

yengcindezi eyalethwa umthetho wokulinganiswa kwezilimi eNingizimu Afrika (The<br />

Constitution <strong>of</strong> the Republic <strong>of</strong> South Africa, 1996). Ngaleyo ndlela njengamanje othisha<br />

bathola ukuqeqeshwa ukufundisa lolu limi ngolimi lwesiZulu, okululimi abaz<strong>of</strong>undisa<br />

ngalo. Ngakho-ke othisha abathola ukuqeqeshwa eminyakeni ephambili, nakuba<br />

kwezinye izikhungo kungekudala kakhulu, babeqeqeshwa ngesiNgisi ekufundiseni<br />

isiZulu. Lokhu kwenzeka nakuye umcwaningi, owaqeqeshwa ngolimi lwesiNgisi kodwa<br />

ebe ez<strong>of</strong>undisa isiZulu ngolimi lwesiZulu esikoleni.<br />

Abanye abafundi kuye kubonakale sengathi abakuthandi kahle ukufunda isiZulu uze<br />

ugogode kuso, ngenxa yokuthi bakubona ‘kuwukuzehlisa isithunzi’ ukugogoda<br />

ngesiZulu, njengoba abafundi abaningi bengasithandi kahle isiZulu, nakuba kululimi<br />

lwabo. Lokhu abafundi abaningi baye bakubone ngokuthi wena <strong>of</strong>unda isiZulu yingoba<br />

ungasazi isiNgisi okuwulimi ‘olubalulekile noluhloniphekile’, nokwazi ukuzibonakalisa<br />

ngalo ukuthi ‘uhlakaniphile’. Lokhu kungenxa yemiphumela yobandlululo, ukuthi ama-<br />

Afrika uqobo lwawo abe nomqondo wokubukela phansi izilimi zawo, azithathe<br />

njengezingabalulekile futhi ezingenamsebenzi walutho lapho ziqhathaniswa nezilimi<br />

zabelumbi (Ndimande-Hlongwa, 2009, p. 92). Lokhu kwenza ukuthi nakuba isiNgisi<br />

ngokomthethosisekelo wezwe silingana nezinye izilimi ezisemthethweni zakuleli zwe,<br />

kodwa kusabonakala kuyiso esihamba phambili nesihlonishwayo kunezinye eziyishumi<br />

ezisemthethweni zaseNingizimu Afrika.<br />

Namanje kuseyinkinga kubafundi abaningi ukunikeza izilimi zabo ukuhlonipheka<br />

okufana nokwesiNgisi. Leyo nsila isekhona nanamuhla ezikhungweni eziningi<br />

zikahulumeni, kusabusa sona isiNgisi. Lokhu kubonakala nangokuthi umuntu okwazi<br />

ukukhuluma, ukufunda noma ukubhala kahle ngesiNgisi abonakale njengoyisipesheli<br />
