The Gestalt approach based theoretical matrix is
directed at considering the individual in his or her unity
of body and mind, that is also enhanced when
personlized through “integration of the symptom into
the subject’s golbal personality and integration of
therapy into a dynamic and funtional conception that
respectos the individual and his or her need” (L.M.
Lorenzetti).
The importance of the therapeutical rapport in
undersored in this case too, especially vis-à-vis a
patient-to-therapeutist dialogue, cosisting of proposals
and counterproposals in a dynamically changing and
continually evolving exchange.

The music therapeutist has had no legal recognition in
Italy so far. Several legally established regional
associations have ben created now, however, with the
objetive of forming a natinal confederation.
This overview of the status of music therapy in the world
clearly show tahat the misunderstanding as to the role
and training of those who use music for therapeutical
pusposes are still prominent.
This is also probably why much debate still goes on as
to the person’s Music Therapeutist or Music Therapist.
We believe taht the professional figure and music
therapy disciplines must use both musical and medicalpsychological
knowledge and research, to the same
extent.
