institutions of various kinds, they have been exposed to
a great ammount of agression in their youths and have
shown sincere antisocial behaviour.
Patients in the clinic are often involved in chaotic social
and family relationships or are socially isolated.
They seldom have any friends or peer relations, and
many of them are seriously addicted to drugs or alcohol.
They tend to blame others for their problems and not to
take responsibility for their own behaviour, let alone that
of others. The task facing the patient and the workers in
the clinic is to try and determine why the patient's life
has taken such a course and how he can best be helped
to adopt new forms of behaviour, so that he can return
to society. It is important in this respect to make an
inventory of the personal resources of the patient and to
mobilize them.

The therapeutic philosophy of the clinic contains
elements of many therapeutic schools. Psychodynamic
and interactional concepts prevail, whilst behaviouristic
techniques are sometimes applied.
Music fits in as one of the nine creative activities. Other
skills include: drawing, photography, manual
expression, mime, acting, creative play, sculpting and
modelling.
My method of working is generally influenced by three
statements, which at first sight seem to be in conflict
with each other:
