Good afternoon. I`m going to tell you something about<br />

the use <strong>of</strong> musictherapy in the treatment <strong>of</strong> physically<br />

handicapped children from 2-20 years admitted to a<br />

rehabilitationcentre in The Netherlands.<br />

For the clearness <strong>of</strong> my paper I`ll give you some general<br />

information.<br />

A physically handicapped child has disorders in<br />

movement, caused either by a hereditary disease, by<br />

an affection before or during birth, by an accident or by<br />

illness. The most important are:<br />

Encephalopathia infantilis, an affection <strong>of</strong> the brain,<br />

disturbing the development <strong>of</strong> the brain. We distinguish<br />

cerebral palsy, ataxia, athetosia.<br />

Transverse lesion, an affection or the spinal cord,<br />

through which the conductiong <strong>of</strong> the stimulus is<br />

interrupted.<br />

Muscular Dystrophy, different diseases <strong>of</strong> the muscles,<br />

leading to grafe disability.<br />

Brain damage, caused by an accident, characterised f.i.<br />

by a long coma, paralysis, aphasia, loss <strong>of</strong> memory,<br />

behaviourproblems, etc.<br />

The treatment consists <strong>of</strong> an intensive cooperation
