The regression, produced through sounds, leads to a
pre-verbal phase of the experience when the emotion
was lived in the totality of the body and its primary
sensations.(3. 2)
In our approach, we have referred to the concept of
"Archetypes" in the psychology of Carl Jung and
especially to the "collective memory" where primary
images, belonging to humankind, settle.
The ancient and traditional evolution of music is strictly
connected with the one of the archetypes which expects
to be lived by the individual and embodied In symbolic
shapes.
There are archetypal beings, shapes and characters
which are drawn by Jung from mythology and fairy tales,
like the SHADOW, the Self, the OLD WISEMAN, the
GREAT MOTHER, the MANDALA, the CROSS, the
WHEEL, the WAY which appear even in ravings and

hallucinations and in certain artistic, works.
Likewise, symbolic images of voyages, routes to follow,
rites, festivals, sacrifices, birth, death, wars, forces of
nature, often appear in music therapy group sessions.
The group and the individuals get in touch with their own
interior figures in the unconscious, and experiment with
them actively, dramatizing with sounds this experience,
which is not possible to express through words.
"IL POPOLARE"
All the music is traditional and folk, that is, it cannot be
conveyed or have a meaning out of social relationship,
thus supporting the thesis of a "sound presence" on
which all the sound experiences are based.
As a consequence, there is a common musical
competence lying at the base of man's musical practice.
